Plasmonic nanoparticles functionalized with six types of carbohydrates have been synthesized, which can detect pM levels of carbohydrate binding proteins. In addition, they enabled the differentiation of twelve cancer and normal cell lines via surface-enhanced Raman scattering using a single test.
