Join us on 12th April at 19:30 GMT to learn about "Pattern formation live from the kitchen!"
Patterns, patterns, patterns everywhere! The science of pattern formation lies at the very core of the evolution and development of living systems.
In this session we will take a brief tour of some interesting universal principles that lead to coherent patterns in space and time and explore some examples of how of geometry and symmetry trigger the emergence of some of nature's most striking patterns, including Turing patterns, circadian rhythms, neuron and cardiac dynamics, and patterned animal coats.
To illustrate some principles of pattern formation we will carry out a live convection experiment streamed from the kitchen of a Cambridge scientist!
Speaker: Dr Carlos A Lugo-Velez, University of Cambridge
