Really interesting new work in progress - working with AVR London on an office Retrofit in Greenwich, London. Simply the project involves the insertion of a new engineered timber and plywood roof structure between two victorian brick wings. The roof twists to minimise height and visual impact to the north west and twists to open up to north light into the deep plan working areas opening up views towards Greenwich town hall. A hidden courtyard brings in greenery, improves ventilation and creates a social space. Other insertions use up-recycled/salvaged materials where possible - cast iron, brick, steel and timber.
The process involved lots of hand drawing - and quick sketch up options - often sketched over using a A2 Wacom tablet. A drone scan rapidly allowed a 3D site model to be created using photogrammetry. The sketch up model was tidied up in 3D Studio Max then brought into Unreal, where materials and lighting were added. This has allowed us to all explore the space in VR as a design tool and make pretty rapid changes looking at different options - including various internal and structural configurations. Very much work in progress using the efficient workflows developed by AVR - but it is great to use these tools as part of the design process.
