Wall House #2, located in Groningen by the Hoornse Meer, is an interesting object for architecture enthusiasts, just 15 minutes from the Groninger Museum.

In the 1970s, American architect John Hejduk designed several Wall Houses. Ultimately, only one was realized. In 2001, Wall House #2 was built in a residential area by the Hoornse Meer in Groningen. Central to the design is a massive wall measuring 18.5 meters wide and 14 meters high, from which the various spaces are suspended. At the same time, this wall connects the rooms with each other. The entrance is not located at the front, but on what is perceived as the back of the building.

Wall House #2 has been managed by the Groninger Museum since 2016.

Karst cave in Bijie, southwest China’s Guizhou, was converted into an indoor playground for villagers. It maintains an almost constant temperature of 20degC making it comfortable for players and up to 1000 spectators in the hot summers and warm enough in the cold winters.

As you're leaving Arrochar and starting the drive up the Rest and Be Thankful on the A83 you may have spotted the abandoned and derelict torpedo testing station on the side of Loch Long. It could now become a hotel and holiday homes under new redevelopment plans.

The former Ministry of Defence site on the banks of Loch Long in Arrochar, Argyll & Bute, has been out of use since 1986, and the grounds have regularly been used for fly-tipping and littering.

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority have now approved a proposal by Ardnagal Estates to turn the land into a 34-bedroom hotel, holiday homes and lodges, glamping pods and an outdoor play area. The park authority said the changes would come with guarantees from the developer to protect the natural environment around the site.

Talk about holding your ground...

In front is the Eschenheimer Turm in Frankfurt, built between 1400 and 1428 as part of the city's defensive walls.

Behind is Nextower, a modern glass high-rise completed nearly 600 years later.

The medieval tower stands just 47 metres tall, yet somehow it's the first thing your eye is drawn to. Cities often race towards the future, but every now and then a building refuses to be forgotten.

Imagine what the builders of the tower would make of the skyline around it today. And then imagine explaining glass curtain walls, lifts and air conditioning to them.

I've designed glass curtain walling for several distilleries here in Scotland. This is Lindores Abbey Distillery in Newburgh, Fife. One of Scotland's smaller distilleries and worth a visit but book your food in advance because it gets quite busy. It's very dog-friendly too.
