PEDW's public consultation on our proposed Rhiwlas Energy Park comes to an end today.

Incase you missed it...

⚡ Rhiwlas Energy Park is one of our proposed onshore wind energy park, around 1.3km southeast of Llangurig. The proposal includes up to 12 advanced wind turbines, generating up to 80MW of clean, green energy – enough to power approximately 71,200 households per year.

🤍 We’re committed to ensuring Rhiwlas Energy Park not only benefits the environment but also the local community. Alongside social value delivery from our contractors, education and skills engagement with local schools and employers, the park’s Community Benefit Fund would deliver up to approximately £600,000 to support people, projects and places in the community throughout its operational lifespan.

Today is Diwrnod Owain Glyndŵr, and many people will be visiting Corwen to celebrate its important place in Welsh history.

📍But Corwen is also helping shape Wales' future.

The town is home to the Corwen Electricity Cooperative (CEC), whose volunteers have developed community-owned hydro schemes that generate renewable electricity while creating benefits for local people. The first scheme, Nant y Pigyn, provides cheaper electricity through Energy Local and supports a local community fund, while a second scheme at Bronwm was connected to the grid in 2023.

As part of our engagement around Moel Chwa Energy Park in north east Wales, we got to know the Cooperative and were inspired by what local people had achieved. Working together, we're supporting a feasibility study exploring whether more community hydro opportunities could be developed across the Dee Valley.

For us, it's a great example of what can be achieved when communities, businesses and organisations work together around a shared goal.

Today, we're celebrating the volunteers, ideas and community spirit that continue to make Corwen such a special place. 💚

📢 Our planning application for Banc Du Energy Park has been accepted by PEDW and has now moved into the next stage of the planning process.

As part of that process, PEDW has opened a public consultation on the application, giving residents, community groups and other stakeholders an opportunity to review the proposals and submit their views before a recommendation is made to Welsh Ministers.

The proposed energy park near Llangurig could generate enough renewable electricity to power around 37,963 homes and provide £300,000 per year in community benefit funding if approved.

We’re proud to introduce our charity partners for 2026-2029: Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre and Carers Trust Wales.

Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre supports people affected by domestic abuse in North Powys, while Carers Trust Wales works to transform the lives of unpaid carers across Wales.

Over the next three years, we’ll support them through fundraising, volunteering and sharing our skills.

We’re looking forward to working together and backing the vital work they do every day 🤍

We’re not at a formal public consultation stage for this park right now, but attending local events like these gives us and the community the opportunity to reconnect and share knowledge.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand at the Llanddewi Brefi Show yesterday.

It was great to speak with people from the local community about our proposals for Lan Fawr Energy Park- our proposed onshore wind energy project in the area.

The conversations we had were thoughtful and valuable, helping us better understand local perspectives. We also welcomed the opportunity to speak with those who have questions or concerns about the project. While views on renewable energy developments can differ, we appreciated the constructive and respectful discussions that took place throughout the day.

Many people asked why we were attending the show when we're not currently in a formal consultation period. Put simply, we believe engagement shouldn't be limited to consultation windows.

We want to maintain an open dialogue with local communities and provide opportunities for people to ask questions, share views and stay informed as the project develops.

📌 An update on Rhiwlas Energy Park

Our planning application for the proposed Rhiwlas Energy Park near Llangurig has now moved to the next stage of the planning process.

The project could generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of around 71,200 homes each year and, if approved, would also provide an annual community benefit fund worth up to £600,000 for local groups, projects and services.

Before reaching this stage, we carried out extensive consultation with local communities, stakeholders and specialist organisations. We carefully reviewed the feedback received and made changes to the design of the project before submitting the application.
