Our Scotland depot recently started working on a 3-week blockade in the Scottish Highlands at Easterfearn, supporting Rail Systems Alliance Scotland with the renewal of 4,653 yards of track.

Over the course of the works, we will be utilising two Colmar T10000s to the remove the track panels, two Liebherr 920s and a dozer will then skim dig the formation and thimble the rail into position, ready for the NTC train to relay the new track.

Working in locations like this makes the job even more rewarding, combining great views with the work that keeps vital infrastructure moving.

Our Story Geotech team have recently been supporting Story Contracting at Danes Hill, undertaking three soil test nails to a depth of 4m.

The team have utilised rope access and a Ripamonti rig mounted on a long-reach excavator to carry out the works safely and efficiently on challenging terrain.

The installed soil nails will be pull tested after four weeks, providing valuable performance data to inform the next phase of the works.

💪Our heavy lifter Colmar's making easy work of panel lifting

Our Salsburgh team recently supported Rail Systems Alliance Scotland at Polmadie, Glasgow. Utilising two of our tracked Colmar machines for their first tandem lift, they worked together to lift a 12,500kg switch panel.

As the highest-capacity RRVs in the Story Plant fleet, the machines handled the heavy lift with ease, helping the team deliver the works safely, efficiently, and to programme.

Take a look behind the scenes at our Carlisle Plant depot 👀

From our custom test track, used for training and plant machinery checks, to our in-house workshop and plant yard, everything plays a part in keeping our plant moving out to site, with our transport team stepping in to move machinery safely and efficiently to where it’s needed.

🤝It’s all part of the work that goes into supporting our teams on site.

Our Geotech team has recently been supporting Story Contracting at the Futamura site in Wigton, Cumbria.

Following previous ground investigations that couldn’t fully pe*****te dense sands and gravels, the team mobilised ‘Big Blue’ (Comacchio Geo 405) to overcome the challenge. Using our Elemex drilling system, boreholes were successfully completed to depths of up to 15m.

The data gathered will play a crucial role in designing foundations for the installation of a Sulphur Oxidation Plant (SOP) along with a new operations and control building.

Our Salsburgh depot recently supported Rail Systems Alliance Scotland, delivering 539 yards of Cat 15 cess drainage at Harthope South during the West Coast Main Line blockade.

To support these works, we utilised three Liebherr A924 offset RRVs alongside one Colmar T10000 to excavate and backfill the drain, before tidying and brushing the site ready for hand back.

Another successful possession with all works completed safely and on programme.

Another successful blockade for the team, as our Birmingham depot recently supported colleagues from Story Contracting to deliver bridge strengthening works at Redborough Farm Viaduct in Leighton Buzzard.

During the seven-day blockade, we supplied:
• Three Liebherr A920s
• Two EVO MEWPs
• One Colmar RRV
• One Liebherr A900
• One Unimog
• One D6 Dozer
• One 13‑tonne excavator

A total of 88 machine‑operated shifts were completed, with Crane Controllers, POS and Fitters from also supporting the works to carry out ballast removal, installation of 96 PCC units and re‑ballasting.
