We’ve hit another significant milestone at the Sands Centre in Carlisle as we dismantle the temporary roof structure and remove the 16 miles of scaffolding which has protected the site during the installation of the new roof.

We’ve made significant progress over the last few months and pleased to report that our contracted works are set to be completed as planned and we’re on track to facilitate a hand-over back to and GLL.

The Sands Centre is an important community asset and we at Cubby Construction are proud to have played a key role in its improvement.

This Health & Safety at Work Day we are celebrating our fantastic SHEQ team, processes and technology we implement at Cubby Construction to raise health and safety standards across our workforce.

From regular training, site inspections, toolbox talks and quality processes, we drive a culture where safety and compliance is prioritised across our business.

We use SafetyCulture as a mobile platform where colleagues can record, log and track close calls, accidents and any potentially unsafe situations that need addressed. It works well across multi-site operations, allowing users to instantly record any issues with photo and video evidence, safe in the knowledge it goes into a system where it will be followed up and acted upon.

We are delighted to announce that Cubby Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the long-awaited regeneration of Annan Harbour in Dumfries & Galloway, with works on the £15.65 million redevelopment set to begin next month.

Annan Harbour Action Group selected Cubby Construction to deliver the project, a milestone which marks the start of a transformative new chapter for one of the South of Scotland's most historic waterfronts.

The project will draw upon the specialist expertise of other businesses within Cubby Group. Cubby Joinery will manufacture bespoke timber elements, including walkways, the Harbour Master’s hut, a bird hide and the ‘ramphitheatre’. Cubby Plant will supply plant, safety fencing, site offices and welfare facilities. Laidlaw Building & Scaffolding will provide both internal and external scaffolding, while skilled stonemasons will ensure that all stonework is completed to reflect and preserve the site’s heritage character.

The redevelopment will breathe new life into Annan's historic harbour basin and the adjacent Georgian sandstone warehouse, transforming them into a vibrant destination for local people and visitors alike. Facilities will include a visitor centre and café, maritime heritage centre, event space, leisure lagoon, training and retail space and accessible nature walks along the Ministers' Merse, a stretch of land reclaimed after more than 30 years of abandonment.

This week we’ve been proud to celebrate Women in Construction Week, finishing with International Women’s Day on Sunday 8th March – a great opportunity to recognise the talented women helping shape the built environment across the UK.

The number of women joining the construction industry continues to grow, and we are lucky to have talented women across Cubby Construction who bring fresh perspectives, skills and leadership across roles from site and engineering to design, planning, safety and support services.

There’s still more to do, so it’s important we keep supporting and encouraging the next generation into the industry.

This year’s International Women’s Day message, “Give to Gain,” is a great reminder that by sharing knowledge, mentoring others and creating opportunities, we build a stronger and more inclusive industry for everyone.

We’re proud to announce the successful completion of our latest project at Curwen Hall Park in Workington.

Combining heritage renovation with new-build elements, the project included a new-build café, greenhouse buildings and the careful refurbishment of an existing pottery workshop, including structural and internal upgrades. Drainage and surfacing works were also carried out across the site to improve access and usability.

This project will not only provide an inclusive, family-friendly destination in the centre of Workington, but it will bring together all of West House’s social enterprises, giving them the spotlight that they deserve.

West House is a charitable membership organisation, with over 400 care and support staff supporting over 200 adults and over 150 children at home and in the community.
