Alongside our work as the Royal Borough of Greenwich's Highways Term Contractor, we also give back to the people at the heart of the borough.

Earlier this week, that meant volunteering alongside our partners at WSP in the UK & Ireland to help pack non-perishable food for Greenwich Foodbank, ensuring local people in need don't go hungry.

Another rewarding day supporting a fantastic local organisation.

Not sure what comes after your results? That's okay. Taylor wasn't either.

After sixth form, Taylor started a career in insurance before realising it wasn't the right fit. Looking for something with more variety, he joined us as an Apprentice Quantity Surveyor not long after.

Now he's building valuable experience on-site and off, learning from industry experts and developing a career in a sector brimming with opportunity.

If you've collected your results and are curious where they could take you, a highways apprenticeship could be a great place to start.

Six young people have completed a three-week Introduction to Highways programme, gaining practical skills and hands-on experience of the highways industry.

Delivered in partnership with the Havering Council and The Skills Centre, the programme gave Kyian, Ellie, Leighton, Taha, Liam and Ibraheem the opportunity to learn more about the sector and develop valuable skills for the workplace.

The group showed fantastic enthusiasm and commitment throughout the programme, and we’re proud to have played a part in supporting their next steps.

This summer, students from Islington Council, Barnet Council and Newham Council joined us for three week-long work experience placements

As well as developing their teamwork and communication skills, more than a dozen pupils spent time across our Commercial, Permitting, Learning & Development and Health & Safety teams.

From building confidence to better understanding the opportunities available in the industry, our latest programme helped young people take their first steps towards meaningful, long-term careers.

It's just one of the many ways we give back to the communities we serve.

From helping set up to welcoming visitors through the day, we were proud to support Bridge Renewal Trust's summer festival last month.

Bringing together local residents, community groups and organisations from across the community, this year's event was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate everything that makes the London Borough of Haringey such a special place.

As always, it's a pleasure to lend a hand and help make a difference locally.

What does a job in street lighting actually look like?

That's exactly what Year 10 students at The Pavilion School discovered during a recent hands-on workshop with our Street Lighting Team.

On the day, pupils learned how street lighting teams work, what apprenticeship opportunities are available across the sector, and even how to safely change a fuse.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the important role we play in helping young people explore future careers in highways.
