Looking back on past projects before smartphones.
One that stands out is the brewery bridge at Ridley Brewery, built in the mid-1800s. After carrying traffic for well over a century, the strain of modern demands finally took its toll. Sections of the bridge gave way, leaving it weakened and unsafe, and requiring significant rebuilding.
Working as part of a wider team, we took on the brickwork and arch reconstruction directly over water, work that demanded accuracy, planning, and traditional skill. Carefully tying the new work into the surviving fabric brought the structure back into use while respecting its history.
This project remains one we’re proud to look back on. It was a reminder that many Victorian structures weren’t designed for the pressures of today, and that careful reconstruction is often the only way to keep their story alive in the landscape.
