In the Press: New HD lens for Nuclear Monitoring.

Many thanks to the editorial team at Photonics Spectra for recently reporting on our new Model 419 fixed focus HD non-browning lens. They discuss how this affordable new 9mm focal length lens is perfect for radiation-hardened CMOS cameras used for close-up nuclear monitoring applications, including the integrity of hot cells, pipes, tanks, waste storage containers, and reactor cores.

Flight ready camera lens for satellite missions.

Recently a camera manufacturer approached us to develop a new 6mm focal length lens for use in satellite missions. The lens needed to be radiation resistant to enable prolonged use in space, athermalized to deliver consistent performance across a wide temperature range and ruggedised to withstand the rigors of launch. Due to the satellite camera manufacturers tight delivery requirements designing a new optimised lens from scratch was not an option.

Introduction to radiation resistant lenses.

Radiation resistant (or non-browning) lenses are specialized optical systems engineered to withstand high-level gamma or X-ray radiation, preventing discoloration and degradation of performance. Typically made with cerium-doped glass or synthetic silica, these lenses are essential for nuclear monitoring, waste processing, medical and space applications, often enduring up to 100,000,000 rads and high temperatures without loss of performance.

FAQ: How does Resolve Optics ensure the quality of its custom optics?

A: We do this through a combination of continuous on-the-job training for our production staff and investment in advanced testing equipment. For instance, we use an automated MTF lens testing system to test the performance of all the lenses and optical systems we produce. This advanced system removes much of the variability of human involvement in testing resulting in faster, more accurate and repeatable testing as well as improved product quality.

Application optimised UV, IR and SWIR lenses.

Most of the Ultraviolet (UV), Infrared (IR), and Short Wavelength Infrared (SWIR) lenses we have created over the years are tailored for applications where standard, off-the-shelf lenses are inadequate. Great examples of this include SWIR waveband optimised lenses for material selection and sorting, IR lenses for specialist high performance thermal imaging cameras and a novel UV zoom lens to safely monitor spent nuclear fuel through 10 metres of water.

Key design considerations for Space optics.

Designing optics for satellites and space platforms is challenging due to the harsh conditions that components and optical systems must endure to work effectively in this remote environment. Our experienced design team has written an informative technical note that discusses the importance of radiation resistant material selection, minimising mass, vacuum compatibility, working in zero gravity, thermal stability and structural robustness to withstand the launch into space.
