LOVED receiving this in the post yesterday from our friends at the PATCHWORK Project

Great to read about all the great activities the project has engaged with this year and I'm personally so pleased that Thorne & Derrick International were able to support your climbing trip.

Patchwork is a neighbourhood youth project set up in 2001 by local people. Patchwork is a charity (1157186) and a company limited by guarantee (8510835) based in Benwell in the west end of Newcastle Upon Tyne. Their aim is to improve the life chances of children and young people aged 5-25yrs in the local area. Local people continue to manage and oversee the project.

Thorne & Derrick International Supports The Allotment Project 🌳💐

The Allotment Project was founded in September 2020 during the pandemic. The managing director Henry Solomon Walker from Waterhouses, taught young children in the past.

He has a vision and passion to help and support the people of Deerness Valley by teaching them how to survive from nothing. Deerness Valley is a highly deprived area and he has put his heart and soul into the project.

He set up the Allotment project using his own land and money and any resources he could lay his hands on locally. With the support of the local Waterhouses Community Centre they advertised the project and began to welcome children between the age of 4 and 16 to become involved in preparing the land to grow food.

Thorne & Derrick support Changing Relations with their Rabbits In Headlights Project. This will be a further development of the book, Sometimes it Hurts, but focused this time on developing a bank of creative tools around the stories to give professionals who work with children and young people a “way in” to a potentially tricky conversation.

Yesterday I visited Easington Community Village Choir. The choir currently meet once per week. The current members are mainly elderly female widows. It's a great opportunity for them to socialise, make new friends in a safe and non-threatening environment and of course to sing.

I was in fine voice yesterday even if I do say so myself 🎤😂.

🏃‍♂️🥇🙌Thorne & Derrick support young budding trampolinist.

Jake started trampolining when he was 9 years old where he swiftly moved to elite level within a year. Some of his greatest achievements were winning a silver medal at the British Championships, winning gold at an international competition in Sweden and being selected onto the GBR Development squad moving onto the England Junior squad.

He started training DMT (double mini trampoline) in June last year and competed his first National DMT competition 4 months later winning double gold. He was then selected to join the England DMT squad. This year he has moved his focus fully to DMT and last month won double gold at a National competition achieving some PB scores.

Due to his performance, he was invited to attend the GBR junior squad in Lilleshall this month and hopes to be selected to compete at the World Age Championships later this year representing his country.

🏃‍♂️🥇Thorne & Derrick support local young runner to achieve his dreams.

A little bit about Chris Perkins … Chris started running at 8 and his family quickly realised he had a talent. By 9 he was running 18.12 for the Parkrun (5k) which was the quickest time ran by a 9 yr old in the world. Some of Chris’ greatest achievements were winning the London Mini Marathon at u13 level.

Retaining the North East Cross Country Championship 5yrs in a row, gaining two cross country England vests and one track (800m) England vest.

Chris excels from cross country to the road and track, always being very versatile and able to switch between the different events.

Go Chris Go! 🏃‍♂️🙌
