Step & handrail replacement:

A rather unique job this week, the top kite of this outside fire escape was completely rotten and had the added weight of brick and paving slabs. This situation was very dangerous as this set of stairs goes over the front door to the building.
We chose to wrap our treads in EPDM rubber adding decking boards as a non slip surface to walk on & used treated softwood for the handrails and risers

Garden living space! (On a very rainy day)

(I also remembered the password to this account) ☀️

A return client asked us to maximise the usable space in a relatively small garden so we build this garden office complete with kitchenette so they could entertain guests.
This build also features ceadar cladding & a total garden re landscape

As always, I forgot to do a ‘before picture’ but we were asked to cover the metalwork supporting this porch as well as the exposed joists in the ceiling (which you can’t see)

We used an exterior ply for the ceiling and ease edged pine for the posts to keep costs down. The timber will be stained to match the oak doors by the client!

Before Vs After on a tricky newel post and hand rail installation.

Not strictly before as I forgot to take a photo before we had taken out the old newel posts, but they were both rotten in this old cottage. The damage had taken with it the tenon on stair string which made getting a secure fixing on the bottom newel a challenge.

The client agreed that fixing the bottom newel to the trimmer was an acceptable compromise to provide the stability the handrail needed. They also provided the handrail itself - this lovely wrought iron effect will stand out nicely once the woodwork is painted!

We built this floating oak bench last week, all ready to be oiled.
The wall wasn’t constructed by us but we were asked to install this corner style bench so that the clients could maximise their garden now that summer has finally begun. We always make sure to plug screw holes in oak, especially on surfaces which will receive heavy traffic for a smooth finish

We are booked up until winter now but if you’re debating a project, please get in touch!

Another unique project; this time a mobility scooter storage shed!

As this area was particularly prone to flooding we chose to raise the cladding off the ground to allow surface water to wash freely through the building and off of the newly slabbed area, which was laid on a gradient to ensure the scooter wouldn’t be sat in water.
Widening the pathway allowed the client to drive the scooter in and out with ease.

Always a fun challenge!

A unique challenge for us today;
Pergola construction is usually our bread & butter but we’ve never been asked to work around extensive foliage like this before!
The previous posts and rails were riddle with rot, causing the pergola to give way and actually created a bit of a hazard in this corner of the garden.
The new pergola includes heftier timber for the weighty greenery to grow over, as well as an extension over a rounded path.

Any challenge is always fun!

Our last job of 2023!
We loved replacing some old hollow core doors with these lovely oak veneer panelled doors in December.

Bonus points for the client for picking out these lovely matt black handles and hardware, certainly a new favourite with oak

If your house is in need of a new years make over replacing the doors is a great way of creating a completely new vibe
