This new house challenges the orthodoxy of new houses in Bahrain, where houses are typically centred on the plot with relatively little space around the house. The plan L-shaped plan form creates space for a large pool and garden which is overlooked by most of the rooms of the house. The built form of the house overlaps with the outside with a large shade extending from the living space and over part of the pool. The full height spine wall and hallway which cuts through the house is set an an angle so that the sense of exterior space increases as one goes from the front to back of the house.

Not a new project but the post prompted by the old photo of the dairy from the 1920s, kindly supplied by a former resident. The cows lived on Wandsworth Common and were milked in the outbuildings at the back.
