"If I can do it, and I went to school here in Birstall, then so can you."
Yesterday, our CEO Katy Deacon swapped the boardroom for the classroom at Birstall Primary Academy. Following her virtual Primary Engineer session on Tuesday, being in person allowed her to truly tailor the engineering story to these bright young minds.
She spoke to four classes throughout the afternoon. “We discussed everything from the mechanics of cars to my role as Vice President of Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) . We talked about overcoming challenges, the power of curiosity, and why engineering needs their ideas and imagination.”
Why this matters:
Representation isn't just a buzzword; today it was about showing those pupils that their local roots and their unique perspectives—regardless of physical ability, gender or background —are exactly what the engineering world needs.
“You can’t be what you can’t see”
The energy and enthusiasm for in that room today was infectious. If these pupils are the future of our industry, we are in very capable hands.
