At Central Tools Workshop a small change that makes a big difference!

On this Ford RS2000, the accelerator pedal has been repositioned 30mm to the right, increasing clearance from the brake pedal and creating a more natural foot position for the driver.

Millimetre engineering is absolutely key in the modification process. Every measurement matters when it comes to driver comfort, control and confidence. The goal is always to keep the driver perfectly in tune with the car, ensuring precise pedal input and a more connected driving experience behind the wheel.

Sometimes it’s the smallest adjustments that deliver the biggest improvements.

Another bespoke aluminium repair/fabrication completed.

This job took a little longer than anticipated, mainly due to the amount of heat control and fine tuning required to achieve the correct balance between A/C, amperage, frequency, and overall weld stability. Sometimes these custom jobs demand a bit more patience to get the result right rather than just rushing the process.

The component has also been drilled as requested and is now ready for the next stage.

There is some very minor pitting visible around the weld edges. Unfortunately, this can occur depending on the cast quality and composition of the aluminium being fused together. That said, it does not compromise the structural integrity of the repair in any way.

Once coated, the calliper paint will settle nicely and provide a clean finished appearance.

Quality work takes time.

There’s something satisfying about keeping an older Alfa on the road properly.

A customer brought me his Alfa Romeo Twin Spark this week with a concern about the exhaust flexi section. The original pipe had deteriorated badly and was beginning to leak , enough that it would almost certainly become an MOT emissions failure.

Now, with many modern repairs, the easy option is to replace sections with whatever universal part fits quickest. But that wasn’t what the owner wanted. He wanted the repair done properly, while still keeping the car looking period-correct underneath, something I can fully appreciate with a classic Alfa.

The old flexi section was carefully removed, preserving as much of the original system as possible. A replacement flexi of the correct size and profile was then fabricated and welded into place, keeping the appearance close to factory while ensuring the exhaust remained gas-tight and MOT compliant.

It’s always rewarding when a repair not only solves the problem, but also respects the character of the car. Older Alfas deserve that extra bit of care.

Another Twin Spark saved from unnecessary replacement parts and ready for many more miles.

This camper came in for what was meant to be a simple bit of rust work… and as you can see from the photos, it turned into a full‑on adventure.

Once we got underneath it, the sills were shot. Properly gone. So out came the rotten steel, needle‑gunned everything back, and welded in fresh metal. No point pretending it’s fine when it isn’t.

You’ll spot the underseal going on in the later pics, that’s after all the corrosion treatment. Should keep the underside healthy for a long while yet.

Then we found the bonus round: vermin. Nesting, chewed insulation, wiring gnawed clean through. Lovely. Cleaned the whole lot out and chased every electrical fault until the speedo cluster and engine light were behaving again.

Took 1.3 weeks all in, but it left here solid, safe, and running properly. Customer was over the moon, always nice when the graft shows.

If your vehicle’s hiding rust, dodgy wiring, or something that’s been nibbling where it shouldn’t, bring it in. We’ll sort it.

Fabrication in Progress at Central Tools Workshop

There’s something special about seeing a build stripped back to bare metal every weld, every bracket, every decision shaping what the car will become. This week in the workshop we’ve been deep into a full roll cage installation, turning a humble hatch into a properly reinforced track ready machine.

From precision cut tubing to fully welded mounting points, every part of this cage is custom fitted for strength, safety, and performance. No off the shelf shortcuts. No compromises. Just proper fabrication, done right.

If you’re planning a race build, restoring a classic, or need bespoke metalwork for your project, we’re here for the jobs that demand skill, accuracy, and a bit of Leicestershire grit.

Project update, our Ford Es**rt Mk5 (34 years old)

It’s been a long time coming, but here’s a bit of an update on the Es**rt. As most of you know, this project has had its fair share of setbacks. A whole mix of faults and ongoing issues really slowed progress down, and if I’m honest, it got to the point where it had to take a back seat.

On top of that, life and other priorities got in the way, so the car hasn’t actually been started for around a year now.

That said, it’s still here and still a project I want to see through. It’s just going to need some time, patience, and a proper run-through to get it back on track again.

Appreciate everyone who’s asked about it hoping to get stuck back into it when I can.

🚗 Rover & MG Owners, This one is for you.
We had an interesting moment in the workshop this week.

A customer bring his Rover 75 to us after reading a google review saying we’d fixed the exact same issue on another car. He saw the photos, trusted the work, and drove straight over.

And he wasn’t wrong.
Within minutes we found the same failure we’d seen on an MG ZT just days earlier.

🔧 The Problem: Rear jacking points & sills
From the outside they looked fine…
…but underneath the paint and filler, the jacking strut had completely crumbled away from the inside.
A totally hidden failure right up until you try to lift the car.

❗ Rover & MG owners: this is very common
Most people won’t know until it’s too late.

✔️ Quick check you can do at home
Carefully jack the car and watch the jacking point:

If it flexes

If it crunches

If it feels soft

…it needs inspecting properly.

🛠️ What we’re doing at Central Tools Workshop
Rebuilding jacking points from scratch

Fabricating new internal sections

Restoring structural integrity the right way, no filler, no shortcuts

This is why reviews matter.
This is why people travel to us.
And this is why we show our work openly, so owners can make informed decisions before the damage gets worse.

If you’ve got a Rover, MG, or any car with suspiciously “clean” sills…

📍 Book an inspection before it becomes a bigger job.
