Cold science, serious crushing power. ❄️⚙️

Watch our engineering team perform a cryogenic shrink fit on a Head Assembly suitable for a Metso® MP800 cone crusher, dropping a precision bronze bushing and steel ball into place with zero mechanical force. Most engineers in the industry will have seen this in action but the science is rarely appreciated...

Here's what is happening in the tank:

🔹 The "Bubbling" Phenomenon (Nucleate Boiling): That intense bubbling isn't water—it is liquid nitrogen instantly boiling upon contact with room-temperature metal. Because the temperature differential is over 216°C, the metal rapidly transfers its heat into the liquid, flashing the nitrogen into gas and creating violent boiling until the metal reaches thermal equilibrium.

🔹 Why Steel Takes Longer to Cool: Notice how the steel ball requires significantly more time in the bath than the bronze bushing? This comes down to two properties:

Specific Heat Capacity: Alloy steel holds more thermal energy per gram than bronze. It requires more energy transfer (heat removal) to drop by the same number of degrees, sustaining that aggressive boiling phase much longer.

Thermal Conductivity: Bronze is a copper alloy, meaning it conducts heat much faster than steel. The heat from the centre of the bronze bushing travels to the surface and escapes into the nitrogen rapidly, whereas steel releases its internal heat at a slower, more deliberate pace.

🔹 The Bronze Contraction Advantage: Bronze also has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion than steel—meaning it shrinks significantly more in the extreme cold, allowing it to drop effortlessly into the head assembly bore.

🔹 The Permanent Lock-In: As the components return to ambient room temperature, they expand back to their exact machined dimensions. No hydraulic pressing, no hammering, and zero risk of surface galling, just an immense, uniform 360-degree mechanical bond engineered to withstand extreme mining and quarrying loads.

Mining doesn’t wait — and neither do we ⚡
When critical uptime is on the line, ex*****on matters....

A key mining customer urgently required a full set of new wear liners for their Metso® Superior® 54‑75 primary gyratory crusher, CMS Cepcor was chosen as the trusted the delivery partner.

Our team immediately responded, picking and packing components from our extensive UK stockholding. With downtime risk escalating, the customer requested urgent airfreight, prompting our teams to engineer a fully tailored logistics solution.

The single‑piece mantle, weighing circa 8,000 kg and being cone shaped, required a custom airfreight cradle to guarantee zero movement during transit. Our engineering team accelerated the design and fabrication process, ensuring safe, compliant, and on‑schedule dispatch.

In total, the Mantle and Concave Segments weighed 28,000 kg and were successfully transported in the cargo hold of a wide bodied Boeing 747 airliner.

Following the successful ex*****on of this urgent shipment, we are now preparing a repeat order for a second full liner set to be delivered by Seafreight, including:

• Mantle: 1‑piece ribbed Mn18%
• Full set of Concave Segments: Premium H69 alloy

This project demonstrates how we help mining operations reduce downtime risk through rapid ex*****on, engineering expertise, and complex high‑capacity logistics.

A customer visit in Belgium results in preventative maintenance purchase ⚫🟡🔴

The site visit was carried out to oversee a major rebuild of a Sandvik® Superior® S4800 Cone Crusher. Precision-engineered parts were installed to restore the operational efficiency of the machine.

The parts fitted were:

✅ Spider Rim Liners
✅ Spider Bush
✅ Mantle
✅ Concaves
✅ Eccentric & Eccentric Wearing Plates
✅ Bottom Shell Bushing
✅ Gear Hub

During the rebuild a more detailed inspection was carried out and a fracture was identified in the existing bottom shell. To prevent any possible downtime, a replacement bottom shell and liners were purchased from CMS Cepcor's UK stores and dispatched the very next week.
