There has been excellent progress across our Sun Works site at Cairnhill this week, with several areas advancing into some exciting new stages of development.

With Bay 10 reaching another important milestone with the installation of its first cladding, the groundwork for the Bay 2 extension is also well underway. It’s great to see these projects continuing to take shape and progress on site.

As we approach the last quarter of the year, our focus remains on finishing strong, with continued investment in developing our capabilities, enhancing site facilities, supporting business growth, and driving continuous improvement across our operations.

We look forward to building on this progress as we continue to strengthen our capabilities and deliver further improvements across the business.

This is certainly one to remember! 🏆

Last week ended on an incredible high for Cairnhill, as we proudly took home the Lanarkshire’s Best Business (26+ Employees) award at the 2026!

The evening was a fantastic celebration of the outstanding businesses, people and achievements that make Lanarkshire such a thriving place to work and do business. It was inspiring to see so much hard work, dedication and success being recognised across our local business community.

For us, this award is a real testament to the dedication, commitment and passion that goes into everything we do at Cairnhill. It reinforces that the work we do truly matters and motivates us to keep aiming higher, exceeding expectations and delivering the highest standards for everyone we work with.

Last week, Cairnhill’s Managing Director, Steven Hendry, had the pleasure of attending the official opening of the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) x @ Learning Hub at the UWS Lanarkshire Campus, unveiled by Lady Susan Haughey, Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire.

Partnerships between industry and educational institutions such as New College Lanarkshire play a vital role in bridging the skills gap and creating opportunities for the next generation. By combining education with practical learning, we can encourage more young people to explore careers across a range of sectors, developing local talent, and building stronger workforces for the future.

There’s been some great progress on site over the past week, with Bay 10 moving forward as we continue to make headway with our expansion programme. It’s exciting to see things starting to take shape as we work towards the next stage of development.

With a new division now underway, we’re also looking forward to bringing previously outsourced work back in-house at our Sun Works site in Coatbridge. This is an important and exciting step for Cairnhill, allowing us to further develop our in-house capabilities, build on our existing expertise and support our continued growth and progression.

With exciting developments happening across our sites, we’re looking forward to seeing this progress continue over the coming weeks!

Due to an exciting increase in contract awards, Cairnhill are looking for skilled and motivated Freelance SFS Installers to join our growing on-site Framing Division.

You’ll be working across a range of projects and will be responsible for:

● Installing infill and oversail SFS systems from detailed drawings
● Working collaboratively with colleagues to coordinate tasks effectively and maintain a safe, organised working environment
● Carrying out checks and inspections throughout the installation process to ensure structural integrity and compliance with safety standards

Recently, the C-Met team were back on-site supporting coating repair surveillance on the Alwent Beck’s pipe bridge.

Contracted by@farransconstruction, C-Met’s work involved the on-site surveillance of coating repairs across the bridge structure, from reviewing the agreed repair methodology and observing local preparation and coating reinstatement, through to reviewing ongoing site coating records and completing supplementary dry film thickness (DFT) verification following completion of the works.

The repairs addressed previously identified areas of coating breakdown and low DFT, with particular attention given to welds, edges, support details, underside members and other difficult-access locations.

Following completion of the repairs, C-Met carried out supplementary DFT verification across all accessible members using calibrated inspection equipment, with recorded average readings found to be within the specified requirements.

Another excellent example of C-Met supporting infrastructure projects through site-based quality assurance, coating inspection, surveillance, technical review and final verification, helping to provide confidence in the quality and compliance of completed works.

Recently, Cairnhill’s Metalwork Division has been hard at work in our Sun Works Workshop, progressing the fabrication and welding stages of the East Kilbride Staircase Project.

Awarded by David Morton Demolition Ltd, Cairnhill has been contracted to recreate a staircase that was removed around 20 years ago during the construction of a new extension. Unfortunately, the original drawings and documentation were disposed of at the time, leaving the team with no existing design information to work from.

Collaborating with C-Met, the Metalwork team overcame this challenge by carrying out a comprehensive reverse-engineered site survey, allowing them to capture accurate dimensions and develop the necessary information to ensure the new staircase matches the existing structure as closely as possible.

From initial site measurements through to fabrication and welding, the project has demanded accuracy, precision, and meticulous attention to detail. Our Metalwork team has demonstrated exceptional skill throughout, ensuring each element has been manufactured to meet the project’s exact requirements. Another great example of Cairnhill’s commitment to quality, craftsmanship and delivery performance.

Last Thursday, our Managing Director, Steven Hendry and Group Services Director, Paul Denning were delighted to attend the BCSA - British Constructional Steelwork Association's 58th Structural Steel Design Awards 2026 on behalf of Cairnhill, following our nomination for the Ukrainian Bridges Project, delivered last year.

We were proud to receive a commendation from the SSDA’s panel of judges, who commented: “An object lesson in ‘bridge building’ in most senses of those words, this project has enormous physical, social and emotional significance to the communities that it reconnects. UK Government funding, British fabrication, Turkish engineering and Ukrainian technical delivery operated seamlessly and the teamwork was exemplary. A remarkable achievement.”

This recognition is a significant achievement for Cairnhill and reflects the dedication and expertise of the incredible teams involved in delivering the Vyshhorod Bridge in Kyiv, Ukraine.

We would also like to recognise the invaluable contributions of Ukrainian State Road Research Institute and DOĞUŞ İNŞAAT VE TİCARET A.Ş., whose collaboration helped make this project possible.

Recently, our Group Projects Director, Neil Goldie, attended Airdrie Academy’s pupils’ awards ceremony to present the ‘David Towers Memorial Prize for Higher Engineering Sector’ to Jacob Alexander, marking the fourth year running that Cairnhill has proudly presented this award.

Jacob is a talented and hardworking young man with a keen interest in pursuing a career in engineering within the aerospace sector. It was a pleasure to recognise his achievements and commitment to his studies at such a young age.

The evening was a wonderful celebration of the pupils’ hard work, dedication and achievements. At Cairnhill, we are passionate about supporting and inspiring the next generation of talent within engineering and education.

Congratulations to Jacob and all the pupils who received awards on the night. It was a pleasure for Cairnhill to be part of such a special occasion!
