We should probably explain what is going on in these photos?!

That's John and Kevin, sat on the front wheels of Kevin's Caterham, clearly planning something. Once you know the story behind this car, you'll understand why there is plenty to talk about.

This is the actual CT05 that Marcus Ericsson raced, and crashed, at the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix. When Caterham F1 folded that same year, it got stripped down and left in a corner of the factory. Kevin picked it up at auction for less than five grand and spent the next ten years chasing parts all over the world, including one steering wheel that took him all the way to a private owner in Australia.

We got the call to help make it run again, and we've loved every minute of it. A year of fabricating, wiring and problem solving later, in late 2024 it fired up under its own power for the first time since that crash in Hungary. Kevin was in the seat, driving his own F1 car.

Driver 61 recently released his video on the build and it's already had 1.8 million views, so we're clearly not the only ones who think it's a great story.

Keep an eye out for the what happens next.....

Another example of the in-house design and manufacturing capability we bring to every project at JDR, this time in the form of brake caliper pistons developed for customer car and finished with a titanium nitride coating. It is the kind of detailed engineering work that rarely gets seen but makes a genuine difference on track.

A recent project from the electronics department, a full wiring loom and CANBUS switch panel built for Pursuit Racing's Lotus Elan.

The loom runs on a power distribution module rather than fuses and relays, and the switch panel we designed reduces all switch wiring down to six core wires. Both are fully programmable, so changes to switch functions or outputs are a reconfiguration rather than a rewire.

We also cut and fitted the dashboard for the gauges and switch panel, and built the battery, alternator, starter and earth cables for the car.

If you're considering a rewire for a historic or race car and want it built with room for future changes, we'd be glad to talk it through.

Thank you to Pursuit Racing for the pictures 🙌
