A splash of pink around SGI on Friday!

Our team joined in with Wear It Pink to help raise awareness and support Breast Cancer Now and the important work they do for people affected by breast cancer.

We’re pleased to welcome Paulina Cage to the team as Business Development Executive.

Paulina’s role spans three businesses within the Milbank Group, working with us alongside Cadman Cranes and Milbank Concrete Products Ltd .

She’ll be getting to know our customers and partners, discussing upcoming projects and exploring where our composite solutions could help. She’ll also work closely with our sales and technical teams to make sure customers have access to the right expertise.

More than 20 years ago, SGI Composites developed bespoke GRP concierge desks and architectural features for Barclays' flagship Piccadilly Circus branch. The design was subsequently rolled out across branches around the UK.

Looking back at a project like this, it’s interesting to see some of the bespoke composite work that helped build SGI’s experience and capabilities over the years.

The original brief called for forms and finishes designed specifically for the space, but with the potential to be reproduced consistently across multiple locations. Moulded GRP gave the team the flexibility to achieve the required design, while providing the repeatability needed for the wider roll-out.

More than two decades later, that combination of bespoke design and composite manufacturing remains an important part of what we do. Today, we work with customers to develop solutions around specific design, performance and application requirements, from one-off components through to repeat production.

Need a GRP liner for a large or bespoke planter?

We can manufacture GRP planter inserts to virtually any shape or size, or, for larger planters and multi-unit schemes, line them in situ.

On-site lining can be particularly useful where planters are already built into a development, or where manufacturing and transporting individual inserts would add unnecessary cost and complexity.

We’re seeing more large planters incorporated into hotels, offices, leisure developments and landscaped spaces, where traditional liners aren’t always suitable. GRP provides a robust, watertight barrier designed to protect both the planter structure and surrounding finishes.

Depending on the project, we can work from drawings or survey the planters on site, recommend the most practical approach and manage the work through to installation.

A few more moments from our 30th anniversary celebrations 🎉

Earlier this month, we marked 30 years of SGI Composites with an afternoon at our Colchester site, bringing together colleagues and some of the customers, suppliers and partners we work with.

It was a chance to step away from the day-to-day, look back at how far the business has come since 1996 and, most importantly, spend some time with the people who are part of SGI today.

Thanks again to everyone who joined us and helped make it a great afternoon.

30 years of SGI Composites. 🎉

Last week, we marked our 30th anniversary with a celebration at our Colchester headquarters, joined by colleagues and some of the customers, suppliers and partners we’ve worked with along the way.

Since starting out in 1996, SGI has grown from its early work in specialist linings, flooring and bespoke tanks to delivering engineered composite solutions across infrastructure, water, energy, rail and more.

A particularly special part of the milestone was recognising four members of our team who have each been with SGI for between 25 and 27 years. That depth of experience, alongside the relationships we’ve built with customers and suppliers, has played an important part in shaping the business we are today.

And we’re continuing to move forward. We’re investing in our engineering capability, manufacturing processes and more sustainable composite solutions as we look towards the next stage of SGI’s growth.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of SGI’s journey over the past 30 years.

One of the biggest advantages of working with composites is the freedom it gives us at the design stage.

Our Standard Bund range provides proven spill containment solutions, with options to tailor individual units to suit customer requirements.

Our team recently manufactured a batch of SG107 and SG108 spill containment bunds, with the customers opting for a yellow finish.

Each bund is manufactured using chemical-resistant resin and reinforced for additional strength, with 38mm GRP grating helping to distribute loads evenly when storing IBCs.
