We Tig weld aluminium, stainless steel and mild steel, we braze, silver solder, gas weld, arc weld, rivet, fold and form sheet metal as required. Capacity to Guillotine sheet up to 2000 mm wide, 3.00 mm thick, brake press up to 2000mm long with punch

press capacity for various slots, holes and louvers. Turning, milling, drilling, cutting all carried out on the premises. If we can't make it or fix it we probably know someone who can, we work with some of the top companies in the UK who are all specialists in there own field, we will gladly point you in the right direction if you need help with a particular problem.

30.00mm thick, two tonne fabs one week onto a 1.00mm Thick aluminium race bike exhaust shield the next 😵‍💫

Three days before it's off to the Isle of Man pre TT and we have a problem !!!

The exhaust is fouling the lower fairing, simple enough to cut it out and make it fit but, current regs mean that the lower fairing has to be sealed to catch any engine oil if it lets go.

No time for fibreglass so an alloy patch will have to do.
You see a lot of old race bikes with things like this but they were made in the days when everyone knew a sheet metal worker and fibreglass wasn't available.
This is how I did it.

When a machine at Rolls Royce goes down on a Friday morning and no replacement parts are available, you have no option but to make a Facsimile.

No time for all the faff of developing a pattern, cutting it out, then finding tooling to fold it and working out the correct sequence of bends only to find out you miss calculated somewhere along the line and have to start again.

This is 3.00mm mild steel so anything you do by hand is a pain, I broke it down into three that will be welded together at the end.
Excess material left on anything being folded and trimmed off after.

As usual the Cardboard CAD plays a roll with the patterns, the punch press deals with the large hole and slot while the brake press handles the folding.

The lack of apprenticeships/training and mobile phones all add to the hands on skill shortage.

There are not many kids keen on getting into this "dirty hands" industry, when they can earn more posting bu****it reels on Facebook and Instagram 😃

That leaves us old ones trying to cover all bases.

In my case that's mainly motorbikes, automotive, military, plant maintenance and food processing equipment.

Along with that though comes the "one off" job, the broken lawn mower, the garden bench, pots pans, child buggies I've done them all over the years ...... But this was a first 😁

Fairground ride re-purposed as a static stand for a bike show.

It just needed a support frame and a pair of footrests welding up and bolting on, the kids will be all over it and maybe a few will take up biking in the future as that's another sector the kids seem to drop, as soon as they get a car licence 😕

Economics and prestige jobs.

It's great when someone walks into your unit with a damaged jaguar XK 150 wing or a bonnet off an old Jenson.

With those projects money is usually the third or fourth question down the list after "can you fix it" and "how long"

That wing or bonnet could be going on a £100,000+ car, they are panels that everyone looks at, they will make or break a car.
People ask "who repaired it" you get more enquiries, you get more work, your reputation grows and you make more money.

This job though is totally at the opposite end of the spectrum, it's a battery tray for a run of the mill 1970's Japanese family car that's having a total refurb.

No prestige, no big money but, to the customer, it may as well be the roof panel because without it, he doesn't have a car.

It's a mega complicated panel to make new, it would require scanning press tools/hammer forms making up, a load of time and money spending on it for something none will ever look at.

But as only half of it is scrap I decided to make up a repair section and braze it in.
A lot of the braze will be shaped to form the corners and hide the joint then, after it's welded in, filled and painted, hopefully, no one will ever know it's been off 😁
