We are thrilled that a team of our Future Professionals, the 'Milestone Makers,' won first prize in the regional Association for Project Management (APM) Project Management Challenge! 👏

Their sustainability project focused on increasing Priority Services Register (PSR) sign-ups among over-65s at Centres for Warmth in Crewe and Birmingham. Working with colleagues from across the business and our supply chain, the team developed a sustainable, craft-based idea that helped tackle loneliness in local communities while increasing PSR registrations.

The team delivered affordable, sustainable craft sessions for over-65s, where participants created draught excluders using recycled PPE and fabric offcuts in partnership with PWS, our Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplier. The programme achieved strong engagement, with 50% of session attendees at the Birmingham Centre and 39% at the Crewe Centre signing up to the PSR.

Claire Valentine, Project Sponsor and Programme Manager, Capital Delivery, said: "As their sponsor, I’ve felt incredibly proud to watch this group of graduates grow throughout the competition. Their project management expertise, commitment to tight deadlines, and passion for sustainability truly shone through. Together, they developed an award-winning concept and delivered it end-to-end as true project professionals."

🛠️ Today is National Damage Prevention Day and today's event hosted by LSBUD, couldn't be at a more fitting venue - St George’s Park, the home of England Football. ⚽

With the World Cup kicking off this week, it’s hard not to draw a parallel. While Colorado Springs isn’t hosting any matches, that’s where we were back in April at the Common Ground Alliance Conference, learning from global best practice and bringing those insights back to the UK.

Call it what you like… but in damage prevention terms, we’re doing our bit to bring it home.

The agenda for day itself reflects the scale and importance of the challenge:

· Exploring how we navigate the AI revolution and use technology to make digging safer

· Tackling the real-world risks of "pipelines under pressure" through legal and practical perspectives on build overs and protecting critical infrastructure

· Diving into the latest Digging Up Britain findings, understanding the trends behind asset strikes and where we go next

· And importantly, is it time to collaborate and explore further how we build the safe digging ecosystem?

Events like this matter because the risk is real, persistent, and preventable. Damage to underground assets remains one of the most significant threats to safety, service, and infrastructure resilience across the UK.

The opportunity in front of us is simple learn more, share more, and work better together.

Because whether it’s football or infrastructure… success doesn’t come down to individual moments. It comes from teams working together, consistently, and getting the basics right.

📹 Let's take you behind the scenes of an incredible place just off the A1 in Lincolnshire – where homegrown, renewable biomethane is created from rotational energy crops.

At this site near Grantham, crops like maize, barley and rye – which are all grown within a 15-mile radius of the site – are fed into anaerobic digesters.

Naturally-occurring microbes break this organic material down into three products:

💚 Biomethane: identical molecules to the gas distributed in our gas pipelines
⚙️ Carbon dioxide: which is captured and stored, and used in industrial processes
🚜 Digestate: a nutrient-rich bio-fertiliser, which goes back to farm to support soil health

It’s simply mind-blowing – both in its simplicity and in its opportunity for UK energy security and to help UK farms generate new income streams.

The biomethane made here enters our network through a connection point at the edge of the site, for its onward journey to local homes and businesses.

In exactly the same way as the methane we already carry, it heats properties, it helps produce hot water, and it’s used for cooking. No changes are needed, to anything.

The big, game-changing difference: the gas is much greener.

Huge thanks to the team at Future Biogas Limited for helping us share the story of what goes on at Moor Bioenergy. Owned by Future Biogas, this is the first unsubsidised anaerobic digestion site in the UK and became operational last year.
