A rare opportunity to join a family owned business as a full time, permanent sheet metal fabricator welder to make tools / moulds for the manufacture of rotationally moulded plastic products.
Wydale Plastics was started in 1992 and is based on the outskirts of Crewkerne in a clean and expanding modern facility. The business has grown steadily every year since and now has over 70 employees, some working shifts although this position is for day work, Monday to Friday.
Working as part of a small engineering team, we require an experienced sheet metal fabricator capable of creating moulds from engineering drawings. This is an interesting and varied role and can be challenging at times, you will need to be able to work on your own initiative to interpret the requirement of the drawings. You will be apprenticeship served or have a recognised qualification, have a minimum of 3 years recent experience working with sheet metal and you will be working with our long serving and very experienced tool maker. The majority of the work is mostly mild steel and occasionally stainless and aluminium. A high standard of finishing is required as imperfections of the mould are transferred to the finished plastic products.
Work pattern Mon-Thurs 7am-4pm & Friday 7am - 11am
Role and Responsibilities
Fabricate high quality mild steel moulds used to create rotationally moulded plastic products
Carry our repairs and modifications to existing steel and aluminium moulds
Assist the engineering department with repairs to plant and machinery as required
Use best & agreed procedures and safe & proper working methods
Qualifications and experience requirement
Apprenticeship served/recognised qualification or previous relevant experience
Preferred skills
Experienced sheet metal fabricator
Experienced Welder MIG / TIG
Used to working with mild and stainless sheet metal as well as aluminium
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and make suitable calculations
Capable of achieving required tolerances
Experienced in the use of press brake, guillotine, plasma cutter, rollers, folder etc.
Be able to dress finished surfaces to a very high standard
Process driven and methodical in your approach
Able to work on your own initiative
Good communication and team working skills
What you will receive:-
£28,000 -£35,000 starting salary depending on experience for a 38 hour week
30 days holiday per year increasing with service to 33 days (Includes Bank holidays)
