As the world watches, NASA has launched Artemis II marking humanity's return! Marking a return to crewed deep space flight with the bold objective to orbit the moon.

It has taken over 50 years since astronauts ventured in to the lunar environment, the same timescale since the UK had a viable domestic satellite launch capability.

This is a powerful reminder of how far spaceflight has come and the opportunity we have for inspiration around the next era of launch innovation, which Skyrora can be a key player.

The journey back to the moon is more than just exploration, it's a statement of intent and ambition, but it mirrors our growing drive to reclaim capabilities once thought as lost to the UK.

We have been nominated in the category of Technology Company of the year for the British Business Awards in partnership with The Times and Sunday Times.

With companies such as Octopus Energy, Utopi, and Zensero having also secured their place on the shortlist, with the strongest performers now going forward to the independent judging panel, comprising 18 key figures from British industry, chaired by the former CEO of Unilever Alan Jope CBE and Emma Crystal, CEO of Coutts Bank.

Shortlisted companies will also form the inaugural British Business Leaders List, a new designation recognising the organisations setting the benchmark for modern enterprise and shaping the UK’s economic future.

The award ceremony will take place in Edinburgh on the 30th April 2026 and the team are excited to take part.

NASA’s first crewed mission to the Moon in more than 50 years is preparing for launch, marking a historic milestone in human space exploration.

The Artemis II crew — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen — will embark on a 10‑day journey around the Moon to validate the critical systems needed for future lunar landings.

This mission not only represents a major step toward returning humans to the lunar surface, but it also reinforces the importance of advancing launch capabilities here on Earth — including those being developed at Skyrora.

As part of the UK delegation, Skyrora gained valuable insight into how the UK’s growing space sector can continue to contribute meaningful expertise to both the UK and US space industries. Artemis II adds momentum to strengthening international partnerships and highlights the need for reliable, innovative, and alternative launch solutions.
