‘’Built for the Sea – Corrosion Resistance and Durability in our Fan Coil Unit’’

Salt air, humidity, and constant motion—superyachts face harsh conditions. Your climate control system should be built to withstand them.

We have listened to the Engineers, Captains and Owners, Tradewinds FCU’s feature stainless steel casing, composite fans, and using Hydrophilic Epoxy Coated Aluminium coils to combat corrosion. These materials are chosen not just for durability, but for long-term performance in marine environments. To partner this product life extended design, we have upgraded the standard ½’’ drain to ¾’’ allowing easy drainage of excess moisture.

Invest in a fan coil unit that’s as resilient as your vessel. The Tradewinds FCU is built to last.

"Silence at Sea – How our Fan Coil Unit Redefines Quiet Comfort"

In the world of superyachts, luxury isn't just about aesthetics—it's about experience. And nothing disrupts serenity like a noisy climate control system.

Our Tradewinds Fan Coil Unit is engineered for quiet comfort. Operating between 50–70 decibels, it uses oversized fans running at lower speeds to maintain airflow without the noise. The addition of a honeycomb baffle and ZAflow technology reduces sound levels of a typical ventilation system by up to 6 dB, even in tight installation spaces.

Whether you're cruising or docked, our FCU’s ensures your peace and quiet remain uninterrupted.

• Composite fans – No corrosion
• Up to 5% higher efficiency
• Easy to replace
• Compact and light weight
• 0-10V EC Fan motor

• ZAflow helps to improve
the flow into the impeller
• Reduction in noise levels
and overall acoustic values

Captains & Chief Engineers!

After spending 35years in the marine & offshore HVAC Industry and the last 10years designing, building and servicing HVAC systems for superyachts, I've come to know that its never a simple fix.

Clients want perfect temperatures and the dark art of HVAC means that both contractors and onboard engineers need a strong understanding of both air conditioning and refrigeration. So I started teaching marine refrigeration and over the last 15 years I've been able to share my experience many engineers. I'm please to say the feedback has been humbling.

So from starting out as a chiller engineer back in the 90's, to designing & commissioning yachts with full blown PLC systems, I've come to know that SO MANY ISSUES are caused by 'Not matching the loads'.

Master Cabin too hot? That's because you have the temperature of the fresh air make up units too high or they aren't being controlled at all. Or if its VAV's, what's the temperature of the supply air and do you have the correct airflow rate coming into the room.

Chillers pumping out the oil from the compressors - that's because there isn't enough load on the AHU's in winter. So the return water is too cold and this lowers the evaporating pressure and slows the compressor down. Also know as low delta T syndrome.

There's a huge amount of scenarios I could go into but the point of this post is to highlight to importance of 'matching the load'. The work done by the equipment needs match the heat load it needs to cool. When there's an imbalance, things start to go wrong.

As part of our services at Tradewinds Marine we are helping our clients by creating a digital twin of the vessel. We upload the drawings, determine the heat load of each and every room, design the ductwork and chilled water pipework, spec the AHU's, chillers and pumps and then run calculations to review the design. Any red flags and we know about them immediately.
Heat load calculations
VAV Min and Max airflow volumes
Heat gains and losses
Duct work sizing
Chilled Water pipework sizing
AHU flow rates
Chiller sizing and flow rates
etc etc etc

Just send us a pdf of your HVAC system and we handle it from there.
We model your existing system and focus on resolving the key issues your experiencing.

We can tell you the heat load when the ambient temperature is 47'C and then again when its -5'C outside. Therefore identifying how many compressors should be running to match this load. What should the static pressure setpoint be on your AHUs and what the volume of your chilled water system should be.

So if you are having ANY ISSUES AT ALL with the HVAC on your yacht then please do get in contact. We would love to support you by designing the perfect environment for your client.

Please contact me if you would like to have a discussion about any issues that you might currently be having.

If there is one thing I love its thermodynamics!
