That "AI went rogue" headline recently made for a dramatic story. The real story is more useful than terrifying.

OpenAI's cybersecurity agent didn't rebel, it found a shortcut to pass a test, then chased that shortcut using a real vulnerability. No malice required. Just an agent optimising in a way nobody planned for.

That's the actual risk with agentic AI right now, and it's one every business deploying agents needs to think about.

Out Head of IT, Martin Tasker breaks down what happened and what it means for securing your own AI agents.

Ever ask AI for something simple and watch it spiral into overthinking a decision you dropped an hour ago? That's not the model getting worse, it's the conversation getting messy.

The developers getting the best results aren't smarter with AI, they're just better at managing what it can see. Clean context, a bit of planning upfront, and a fresh pair of eyes before calling it done.

There's more to this, right here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-your-ai-assistant-keeps-getting-confused-how-k6gpe/?trackingId=2%2Bt5pEyhSnShxcB7JXuyTA%3D%3D

Have you ever been halfway through a coding session with AI and watched it start making decisions that make no sense? It brings up something you dropped an hour ago or gets tangled trying to reconcile two approaches you never actually chose between. The task was simple.

More travel businesses than ever now rely on AI every day. And most of them tell us the same thing, it isn't that AI doesn't work. It's that it works most of the time.

"We automated 80% of the task." Sounds impressive, until the remaining 20% forces someone to check every result manually. Suddenly you've built another process instead of removing one.

Most AI projects don't fail because the model isn't clever enough. They fail because it's not predictable enough.

We break down the four complaints we hear most from clients, and what to do about each:

- Same question, different answer
- Can't automate the whole job
- It makes things up
- Generic, fluffy answers

Once AI becomes predictable, it stops being a novelty and starts becoming infrastructure.

AI can write code fast. Really fast. But writing code and designing something that holds up over time are two different skills.

We've seen this pattern before with self-service reporting and low code, brilliant when used well, a real headache without proper structure underneath. AI is no different. It's remarkably good at producing something that looks right, which is exactly why it's worth checking that it is.

The tools are changing. The need for good architecture hasn't.

There's a lot of talk about AI right now, and it's fair to ask how much of it is real. We think the answer is most of it, eventually, but not without some bumps along the way.

Most AI sessions start with a slide deck and a list of use cases that could belong to any business.

Ours starts with your actual problem.

We bring your team into one room and work through where AI can genuinely help, and where it can't, using something real from your day-to-day rather than a hypothetical.

That's what our workshops are designed to do. Practical, hands-on, and built entirely around your business, not a generic AI demo.

If that sounds useful for your team, it might be worth thinking about what a workshop could uncover: https://www.traverseautomation.co.uk/contact-2-1

AI is transforming every industry, but travel is one of the hardest to crack.

Travel is complex, with routes, suppliers, pricing and constantly changing data, so it takes real expertise to get AI right here. That's exactly what we've spent 20 years building at Traverse Automation, and we're now entering a new era of growth, powered by AI services and products that our customers already trust.

We're looking for a Sales Leader to help us scale this next chapter.

You'll thrive in this role if you:

- Knows travel inside out, ideally from a customer or operational role

- Sells consultatively, not hard. This is relationship driven and about building long term partnerships

- Gets the tech and the commercials

- Is independent, open minded and resilient

- Can collaborate, take context and convert it into product impact

This role reports directly to our Founder and CEO. It's remote (UK-based), entrepreneurial, and free of bureaucracy with customers at the heart of everything we do. Regular travel to see customers will be part of the role, so flexibility matters.

Attractive basic salary + bonus.

To our customers, partners and staff for making it all happen.

Yesterday Traverse have been automating for the travel industry for 19 years!

It’s been an amazing journey for us, we started out automating complex processes, but people also needed the simpler things automating too.

Now AI has transformed what we do completely, we are still automating the complex things but today we help people to use AI optimally so they can do most of their automation themselves securely, robustly and cost effectively.

We’ve no idea where AI will take us over the next few years but we’re still excited to be around for the journey.

Good AI needs good data.

Most teams run several AI tools, each pulling from a different source, so updates don’t always reach everywhere at once.

The businesses getting real value from AI tend to get a few key things right first.

Swipe through for the breakdown.

Most people have heard of AI agents. Fewer have come across knowledge agents, and they might just be the most practical AI tool your business isn't using yet.

Our latest newsletter explains what they are and where they work best:

AI is already changing how we work, writing marketing content, doing deep research for a holiday, or untangling complex legal material. We're also getting used to AI working through multi-step processes to achieve a goal, and one day it may even make the tea and iron our shirts.

We were having a conversation recently about why so many AI projects stall before they deliver anything real.

The answer almost always comes back to the same thing. It is not the technology. It is the foundations underneath it.

The systems that do not talk to each other, the data that lives in the wrong place, and the teams that are too stretched to ever sit down together and fix it.

Our latest newsletter gets into all of that and what the businesses actually getting results from AI did differently: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-most-ai-investments-underdeliver-how-make-r1npe/

There's a pattern that plays out in almost every business we work with. A team runs into a problem.
