From Our Founder & CEO

“On 11th May 2020 I was offered an “Out”

This video is the reason why I’m still “In”.

It was bang in the middle of the COVID lockdown (part 1). I’d seen 85% of our business revenue diminish overnight. Back then the majority of our portfolio revenue stream was from Hospitality & Dumbwaiters. An huge industry that suffered the most….

On top of this, my wife had given birth to our second Child, just 3 days before.

Legal Liquidation is what they called it. Take the government Bounce Back Loan (£50k) and legally fold the company for circa £5,000.00. Great business opportunity at the time - 900% value add potential.

But, it was unethical, it didn’t form part of what I was trying to build and my strong opinions against ended partnerships and friendships.

So what did I do?

I took a couple of months. Brainstorming and exploring. Built a cabin in the garden and moved the entire business operations in to it.

I changed the business model completely, re grouped and pivoted. Focused on alternative areas and opportunities around Public & Disabled Access, including Platform Lifts and DDA Accessibility.

Now - we have strong independent business, £2m+ in revenue, good culture and recognised as a leading Platform Lift & Service Lift Provider.

When your backs against the wall. Sometimes that’s your strongest position.

Undertaking a Full Turnkey Project, we provided the client with comprehensive project management, Structural Engineer Involvement, Electrical & Builders Works (of course not forgetting the stunning lift installation itself).

Manufactured by Innovation Lift Scandinavia AB and installed in-house by our own teams - what a striking result!!

The Same Brand. Just, erm… Bigger…

We are firm believers in the investment of brand, marketing and exposure.

This vehicle is a 68 plate VW Crafter, with a previous life of 161,000 miles as a civil engineering vehicle.

Looks good for her age, doesn’t she?

This van (Big Bertha) will be our certified waste removal vehicle on our projects. Why did we bother getting a vehicle to do this?

1. We are in full control of the project for our clients. No third party involvement, just proper planning, in-house.
2. Having a skip dumped on the side of a project is often unsightly, and sometimes not viable.
3. All waste is recycled / disposed of properly. We can be confident of this.
4. It looks better than a skip / a third party waste removal vehicle. Often image matters!!!

This is just another step forward In to our realm of full turnkey projects and offering our clients the best experience and best value for money.

It’s funny what you find when organising old paperwork…

This week we stumbled across a project folder from early 2021.

Within seconds, I was transported back to the project that paved our business forever.

Back then, D.K Lift Services was a team of just three.

No fancy office.
No huge workforce.
Just three people with a determination to deliver, no matter what.

Then came the opportunity…

The ABBA Arena, East London.

Working alongside BKG Bunse-Aufzüge GmbH and , we were entrusted with designing, manufacturing and installing a fully bespoke goods lift for ABBA Voyage, a critical piece of equipment responsible for transporting specialist stage equipment behind the scenes.

It was, by some distance, the biggest project we’d ever taken on.

Delivered through Christmas.

Delivered during Covid.

Just The Three Of Us.

Were we outside our comfort zone?

Yup, Every single day.

But that’s where growth happens.

Looking back, I’m not sure the client ever realised that such an important part of this world-class venue was being delivered by a company of our size.

That project proved something we’ll never forget…

Size doesn’t define capability. Character does.

Five years on, we’ve grown, our team has expanded, and we’ve delivered many more incredible projects.

But this one will always have a special place in our story because it gave us the confidence to believe we could compete with anyone.

A huge thank you to BKG Bunse-Aufzüge GmbH and for placing their trust in us. It’s a project I’ll always be incredibly proud of.

Our temporary office sits inside this Grade 1 listed masterpiece. Within the Pelican Room, a simulation of a courtroom for a variety of law students. 👨‍🎓
