We have an outing coming up to the Practical Astronomy Show 15th March at Stoneleigh. We will have a new product to show. Also with us the PEM heavy duty mount that carries a huge payload, our Intelligent drive systems, test equipment accessories... and a battery for live demo's. No mains power this time. See you there!

You might find this interesting. AWR have a new product soon to address Telescope Temperature Management. Not only is it a 4 channel dew heater controller but it has 6 external temperature sensors and humidity measurement. Early days of Alpha testing but I have this graph showing a cooling curve of a 9.5" Cape Newise telescope aimed at about 30 degree altitude. The instrument is logging readings every 10 minutes but it is showing its worth.
The front element is cooling down much lower than the air temperature (expected) and dew started forming when lower temperature than the predicted point and at the end of the run it was a bare misting over the front element. This is without any heating applied.

Now for some words on LX200ACF telescopes.
We have updated a few with new brackets, motors and controller and here is specific metalwork for the next supply.
These parts are aluminium water jet cut with some machining required to put some countersink holes and on the DEC part there is an adjustment screw to add which limits the hinge travel.
If you have Meade motor parts that look like these we can now upgrade you!

Here is an interesting diversion from astronomy. This is the Semaphore Tower at Chatley Heath in Surrey, part of a string of towers from the Admiralty in London to Portsmouth. There was another string ending at the Timeball Tower in Deal.
At Chatley Heath is a working model of the semaphore system. It was working from 1991 when we built the electronics until last Summer when it broke. We have since found the paper work replaced the broken components and got it working again, demonstrating it on our bench.
We would not build it like this today!
The Landmark Trust looks after this building and about 220 others but this model is unique. They have open days, in 2024 they are 21st to 23rd June. Other times it is a holiday let.
The other unique model is a working model of the shutter method of signalling based on the tower at Deal..... another story.
