The end result of the fireplace knock through where we found the letter in the bottle! 🧱🔨

Today we found this message in a bottle from 1942 🧐🤯

We have been knocking out this fireplace to make space for a double sided log burner and came across this little bottle with a letter inside.

The customer wrote their own letter and we put them both back in the bottle and built it back into the wall for someone to find in the future 😀

Will do another post once we have finished and Slaters Chimney Services Ltd has fitted the log burner 🪵🔥

Wensley week 4 & 5 🏡

The chimneys are now finished with the pots fitted, the flu liners have also been installed ready for the log burners. 🔥

We’ve fitted the ceiling timbers, insulated the sloped section of ceilings & laid a course of stone both sides to bring us up to the correct height. 📏

One Velux is in with the roof coverings going on both sides. 🪟 🔨

Week 3 at Wensley 🏡

The first chimney is built it just needs the pots fitting to finish it off. We managed to make the drip course for this chimney from some old stone slabs that had been removed from downstairs.

The second chimney required a little more work below the roof as the stone had turned to sand leaving a big hole straight into it, we fitted a concrete lintel to give us something solid to build off and to tie the chimney breast back to the gable wall. Just waiting on pots and we can get these finished off.

A big improvement to this property. ✅

Week 2 in Wensley 🏡

Work on the new roof structure is just about complete, just the ceiling timbers to go in which we are saving for a rainy day. 🌧️

We have been re-building the gable walls around the end rafters and fitting straps to tie everything back together.

Both chimney scaffolds are now up and the stone has been delivered ready for next week, when we will be re-building the chimneys giving them a more original look.

Existing porch renovation in Castleton a few weeks ago.

The old porch was made of timber with a felt roof which was old and leaking. We built it back in block and increased the pitch of the roof as the customer wanted a slate roof.

The rendering and roof covering were completed by other companies which the customer had already organised.

A roof recently replaced in Grindleford for Cressbrook - Improving your spaces.

We removed the glass and found that the rafters were rotten so we replaced them and installed 2 Velux windows, we also removed the coping stones from either end of the building and lowered the chimney stack to below roof level to create a flush verge meaning less future maintenance.

A very happy customer, with work on the main house roof booked in ✅

Another little re-roof from last year.

This roof was leaking due to the pitch of the roof being to shallow for the blue slates when the wind and rain was driving towards them.

We changed the covering to interlocking concrete tiles suitable for the low pitch.
