🪵 Fun fact: Leigh has an impressive talent for identifying different types of wood just by their smell, grain, and weight - a skill that definitely comes in handy in the world of bespoke timber playgrounds!

Not all playground play has to be physical 🌳 Some of the most meaningful moments of play come from slowing down, thinking creatively, and connecting with nature.

🐝 This woodland twist on noughts and crosses shows how cognitive play can be just as enriching as climbing, swinging, or sliding. It encourages children to problem‑solve, take turns, strategise, and enjoy a little friendly competition.

🌿 By blending simple games with natural materials, we create play spaces that support mind, imagination, and wellbeing, not just movement.

How often do we stop and think about the importance of play in a child’s life?🤔 With today being International Day of Play, we join UNICEF in highlighting why protecting play means protecting childhood. As sustainable playground designers, this matters deeply to us because:

👉Play shapes confidence, creativity, and wellbeing, giving children the freedom to explore and grow.
👉Every child deserves safe, inclusive spaces where imagination can thrive.
👉Sustainable playground design protects their future, ensuring the places they play today don’t cost them the planet tomorrow
👉Strong play environments strengthen communities, creating spaces where families connect and childhood flourishes.

Say hello to Jonathan Forder, our Operations Co-ordinator! 👋
Jonathan helps keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes, overseeing procurement, health & safety and the scheduling of all maintenance requirements.

Fun fact about Jonathan, he is a keen cricketer and is currently enjoying his 22nd season in the sport.🏏

Jonathan's favourite bit of play equipment is a Zip Line Racer, which comes to as no surprise due to being fast-paced, competitive, and all about getting from A to B efficiently. A perfect match for someone who keeps our operations on track.

Say hello to Jim, one of our talented Joiners! 🔨 Jim is responsible for making and building many of the fantastic playground projects that come to life in our workshop.

Fun fact, Jim single-handedly travelled to Ukraine to work on a children's home ❤️ An incredible achievement that reflects his generosity and determination. He's also a co-founder of The Biggies' League dog rescue.

Jim's top pick of a playground item is the Witch's Hat 🧙‍♀️ He loves its distinctive shape and striking design. Whether it was the craftsmanship or the slight element of fear it inspired, we're still not entirely sure!

There’s something magical about play that begins in the pages of a book and then unfolds beneath the trees.🌳 The Brambly Hedge Trail at Epping Forest brings Jill Barklem’s beloved woodland characters into the real world - and our specialist craftsmanship helped shape the sculptures that make that story come alive. ⚒️

This unique trail invites families to wander through ancient trees, spot wildlife and discover charming story moments along the way.

It’s more than a walk - it’s a journey through a storybook 📖

We love being part of the design journey for trails like this because play inspired by books does something special. It turns reading into exploring. It transforms characters into companions and encourages children to connect with nature through imagination, curiosity and adventure.

Thoughtful design = safer adventures. 💡This week is Child Safety Week, and a chance to highlight the lengths we go to in ensuring our playgrounds are safe for children to explore. We follow RoSPA safety guidelines to reduce injury risks and create spaces where children can play with confidence.

Why it matters - the reality of playground injuries:

👉 40,000 children in the UK require hospital treatment each year due to playground injuries.
👉 80% of playground accidents are caused by falls — making safe surfacing essential.
👉 84% of hospitalisations involve broken bones, mostly arms and wrists.
👉 Only 40% of accidents are caused by equipment itself with the rest involving collisions, misuse, or surface hazards.
👉 Swings account for the highest number of equipment‑related injuries, simply because they’re the most used.
