“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”

Big engineering achievements don’t happen in one giant leap.

They’re built through precision, persistence and getting the small things right – one component, one connection, one weld at a time. 🔧

It’s a philosophy that feels right at home in manufacturing. Because whether you’re building infrastructure, machinery, ships or something entirely new, every individual element plays its part in the finished result.

At Taylor Studwelding, we’ve spent 40+ years helping manufacturers make those connections count.

⚡ Small details. Strong connections. Big results.

Some things mean more than business.

For more than 40 years, Taylor Studwelding has been proud to call West Yorkshire home. And while we’re proud of the business we’ve built, supporting the people and organisations within our community has always mattered deeply to us.

Our latest blog is a particularly personal one.

We share why Wakefield Hospice holds such a special place in the hearts of the Taylor family, following the care they gave our founder, David Taylor, during the final weeks of his life – and why supporting events including the Wakefield Hospice Pub Walk and Candles at the Castle means so much to our team. ❤️

It’s a story about family, community, remembering those we’ve lost and giving something back to those who were there when it mattered most.

We may build our business in steel, but it’s people, family and community that have always made Taylor Studwelding strong.

🔧 KNOW YOUR WELD | Stud Extension

Stud extension is the amount of the stud that protrudes from the chuck or stud holder before the weld begins.

Getting the extension right is an important part of setting up your stud welding gun correctly. The required amount will depend on the welding process, stud and equipment being used, and incorrect positioning can affect weld consistency and overall performance.

⚡ Correct setup = more consistent results.

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” – Vincent van Gogh

It may have been said by an artist, but we think there’s something very engineering about this famous quote too.

Great manufacturing is rarely about one component. It’s about precision, quality and countless individual elements working together exactly as they should.

At Taylor Studwelding, that principle runs through everything we do – from the smallest weld stud and accessory to our hand-held equipment and fully automated stud welding systems.

🔧 Small components. Strong connections. Bigger possibilities.

🔧 KNOW YOUR WELD | Heat Input

Heat input is the amount of thermal energy introduced into the workpiece during the welding process – and in stud welding, getting it right matters.

Too much heat can increase the risk of distortion or marking, particularly on thinner materials. Too little can result in insufficient fusion and a weaker weld.

The required heat input varies depending on the stud welding process, stud size and material, which is why choosing the right equipment and settings for the application is so important.

⚡ Right process. Right settings. Reliable weld.

🔧 TUESDAY TECH TIP | Reduce Weld Rework

A failed weld doesn’t just cost time – it can slow production and waste materials too.

A few simple checks before you start can help improve consistency and reduce the need for rework:

✔ Make sure the weld surface is clean and suitable
✔ Check your machine settings for the material and stud
✔ Ensure good earth contact and positioning
✔ Keep the welding gun stable and perpendicular
✔ Run a test weld whenever your material or setup changes

Small checks. More consistent welds. Less time spent putting things right.
