So much of what we do happens behind the scenes – the hidden work that you never really notice once it’s all complete. Add in the challenges of the weather (and the odd messy stage or two!), and it can be hard to picture the end result.

But this is the stage we love most: when everything comes together, and our customers finally see their vision take shape. We’re proud to be able to guide projects from start to finish – seeing the transformation is just as exciting for us as it is for our customers.

Customer input is always key – no one knows better than you how you want your home to feel. Our job is to bring that to life with care, skill, and attention to detail.

Some highlights from recent projects:
- A stunning staircase – extremely modern, beautifully crafted from natural materials by our joiner, and a true labour of love. It had to be removed, reversed, and re-fitted multiple times (while the customer lived in the property!) to get it absolutely perfect.
- Bathrooms with personality – each one unique, designed to be more than just functional spaces. We believe a bathroom should make you feel special every day.
- Kitchens in bold blue – one modern, one traditional, both created to suit their owners perfectly. Seeing the smiles when the final pieces were in place made all the hard work worthwhile.

At the end of the day, it’s about pride in the craft and giving our customers exactly what they want. That’s what makes the journey worth it.

Today’s post marks the final stage of our part in this challenging project – adding a first floor to an existing extension. This was carried out beneath a covered scaffold, which proved invaluable through the winter months. We can safely say that we’ve never worked on a house with quite so many hidden surprises; every job seemed to uncover another unexpected issue. The scaffold was also essential in allowing the homeowners to remain in residence, protecting the completed oak staircase, the finished sitting room, and the customer’s office from the elements. We made the most of what was already in place by reusing existing trusses, and where new valleys were formed, we sourced fresh trusses from our trusted supplier.

Happy Sunday!

We were really fortunate to be able to return to a loyal customer in Eye. This lady has patiently waited for over a year for us to be available and it’s always a pleasure to come back (made even better by the ample birthday cake she provided!) She certainly kept us busy. Alison Marriott

On this visit we had a number of projects to complete (with a few surprise tasks along the way).

- New fans installed into the cellar which involved new openings ready to fit new fans with ducting to enable better air flow.
- Lime plastering under the stairs to reduce the impact of an existing damp issue.
- The installation of a new oak handrail fitted for easier access to the cellar.
- And tackling a leaky radiator which meant calling in our brilliant plumber.

Finally; the outside wall, which we approached with great hope of a straightforward project, hid numerous challenges (e.g. navigating the trees and shrubs growing through it) that we were required to overcome. Thankfully, the end result was worth the struggle.

We have availability for new projects in the later part of this year, so please get in touch! 😊

Happy May Bank holiday weekend!

Today’s post is all about the hard work that goes into creating beautiful living spaces. The photos show the development of what will be a stunning kitchen-dining-living space. The task involved several knock throughs, two walls taken out and another boarded up, two bifold openings created, two ceiling beams concealed, and the negotiation of an awkward stair section. Dream kitchens don’t come easy, but sure are worth it.

Throwing it back to a lovely little job, that made a big difference.

Due to a change in the customer’s circumstances, they needed to reconfigure their home. The garage was transformed into a bedroom and wet room to better suit the customer’s needs.

Look out for A&O’s site manager; Pip the spaniel. 🐶

Happy Sunday everyone. As we start to see the beginnings of spring, A&O reflect on the end of phase 1.

The scaffold is down and the windows are in, marking the completion of the exterior work. We now face the inside. First job is to plasterboard then commence the multiple knock throughs. It’s a wonderful moment to see all the hard work finally taking shape.

Part 5 - time to top out!

To complete the roof on the extension we needed to felt and batten, tile, lay the ridge, and complete the cement work.

It’s here you can see the full scale of the project and everything we’d achieved up to this point. The con of roofing in the winter months is certainly the cold, but the December sunsets more than made up for it.

Evening all.

Part 4 of our latest project.

The extension really starting to take shape here. As you can see, it was time to begin work on the roof. The task of marrying up the existing and new roof was a tricky one due to the extension having a larger cavity than the house and the trusses needing to allow for that. Working closely with the trusses surveyor, a solution was found and the extension moved on up.

As well as this, the pictures show the flat warm roof, barge boards, soffits, fascias, and ceiling joists.

One word; brickwork.

Another word; legend.

With winter on the horizon, the two-storey extension started to take shape. Despite some sunny moments, the rain was relentless and a less experienced bricky might have given up all hope….but not our Andy Bow.

Short and sweet this week. Stay tuned for the next phase…

Happy Sunday!

To distract you from the Sunday scaries momentarily, check out stage 2 of our big build. Whilst it might look straightforward, there was a lot to think about at this stage. Building control stipulated that the foundations needed to be reinforced with steel mesh to support the weight of the extension. This was also required in the oversight to prepare for the load bearing wall which would sit upon it. A slight miscalculation from the architect meant that the drainage was more extensive than we envisioned and included two new soakaways to remove rain water from the roof.

All in a days work for A&O.

If you’re looking to start a project, we have availability for the second part of the year. Get in touch!

Hello everyone. Happy 2025!
We’ve been a little quiet on socials recently as we have been very busy. Over the next few weeks we will share all the stages of an amazing project we are lucky enough to be working on. Starting with stage 1 which involved the demolition of a garage to make way for a large, two storey extension. Additionally we re-routed the existing elecrtic supply as well as the outdated and inconveniently located water main, with new stopcock, which will feed the future utility room.

Keep an eye on our page for the next update in the coming days.
