CORBY- ROGUE TRADER ALERT
“TOOL SHARPENING SCAM DOING IT’S ROUNDS IN THE UK”
BUSINESSES PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS
Businesses are sadly falling foul, being intimidated, harassed and abused due to a ‘scam’ occurring now in the UK.
The scam is that a Swedish based supplier (in this case DN REPAIRS but also known as Carlos Sharpening & other names) who sharpen tools, visit businesses as a potential new supplier.
The scammers, arrive in expensive vehicles (mercedes) with foreign plates and are smartly dressed in suits.
They try to avoid reception and go straight into the factory. They offer a ‘FREE’ sample of tools to be sharpened and say they will give a price for their services. They leave their driving licences, car details etc if companies are worried they won’t get their tools back.
Upon their return they ask a shop floor person to sign a “collection notice” to state they have returned the tools. They add a price to this and then their behaviour changes.
They demand £5,000 for their service whilst genuine suppliers charge around £600.
One particular company refused to pay. The scammers declared they are travellers and will return with 40 caravans and park outside the business for two months.
During their initial visit and whilst inside the premises and unbeknown to victims, copy mobile phone numbers placed on boards and walls of businesses and proceed to call managers and directors of the business constantly. One business had 300 calls in a short period of time.
In other articles it is apparent they try to bypass management and get access into work offices to obtain letterheads, purchase order books and personal information to forge purchase orders and gain ways to intimidate.
