Precision is paramount when working with historic masonry. Surfix Laser recently completed a delicate restoration on a 300-year-old brick façade in Yorkshire, removing centuries of biological growth and carbon staining to reveal the original face of the brick.

For historic brickwork of this age, traditional cleaning—such as pressure washing or harsh chemical cleaning—poses a significant risk of surface erosion and irreversible damage. Our pulsed laser technology offers a non-abrasive, contact-free alternative that prioritizes the structural integrity of the substrate.

Why choose Surfix Laser for stone and masonry?

Surgical Accuracy: We selectively remove contaminants (moss, algae, and carbon build-up) while leaving the delicate, aged surface of the 300-year-old brick completely untouched.

Chemical-Free: By avoiding harsh solvents, we ensure no chemical run-off affects the surrounding area environment or leaches into the historic lime mortar.

Surface Integrity: Unlike abrasive methods that strip away the "fired" protective layer of the brick, our laser cleaning respects the original patina and ensures long-term preservation.

Beyond stone and brick restoration, we provide a full suite of surface preparation services for wood and metal, including professional finishing to protect your assets for the future.

When it comes to intricate cast iron, the details are everything. Surfix Laser recently restored these exterior lanterns, bringing them back to their original, bare-metal finish.

For ornamental work like this, standard preparation methods simply can’t compete. Where mechanical tools or blasting risk damaging or blunting the fine cast details, our pulsed laser technology acts with surgical precision. It reaches into the tightest crevices to vaporize layers of old paint and corrosion, decontaminating the surface down to the metal without ever touching the substrate itself.

The Surfix Advantage:

Unrivaled Detail:
We restore the original, sharp lines of the design that would be lost with traditional abrasive blasting.

Complete Decontamination:
We remove rust and residue from every nook and cranny, ensuring a perfect, long-lasting bond for the new protective coating.

Authentic 18th-century ironwork requires more than just standard cleaning—it requires a surgical approach. Surfix Laser recently restored this original front door lock mechanism, bringing a piece of 1700s history back to full working order.

When dealing with such complex, antique mechanics, traditional abrasive methods like sandblasting are too aggressive and would destroy the delicate tolerances of the internal components. By using our precision pulsed laser technology, we were able to vaporize deep-seated oxidation and years of grime from every spring, lever, and internal crevice without removing a micron of the original metal.

The Surfix Difference:

Microscopic Decontamination: The laser removes rust down to the pores of the metal, leaving the parts perfectly clean and free from any residue.

Non-Destructive: We preserve the structural integrity of every component, ensuring that 300-year-old mechanics remain sound.

Full Restoration: Beyond the laser preparation, we provide optional finishing services to ensure these parts are protected and ready to be reinstalled.
Whether it’s a delicate antique lock or heavy structural ironwork, we provide the specialized preparation needed to bring history back to life.

The result is a fully decontaminated, bare-metal surface that’s perfectly prepped for a durable finish.

Surfix Laser recently undertook a delicate restoration of an 18th-century cast iron patress plate on a Grade II listed building here in York.

To bring this historic ironwork back to a clean, paint-ready surface, we employed a multi-stage preparation process. While our pulsed laser technology was the star of the show for vaporizing centuries of built-up paint and corrosion without harming the intricate cast details, we utilized a combination of specialized mechanical tools to ensure a consistent, flawless finish across the entire surface.

Why our multi-tool approach matters:
Preservation First: By using the laser for detailing and targeted mechanical tools for larger areas, we ensure the substrate remains completely intact.

Flawless Finish: Every square inch is prepped to the exact standard required for a high-quality protective coating.
Heritage Compliant: We respect the age and integrity of the material, avoiding the risks of harsh chemical or abrasive stripping.

From stone and wood to historic ironwork, we provide expert surface preparation tailored to the material.

Who knew the 19th century could be so... satisfying?

We’re taking a trip back to the Victorian era today, but we’re traveling by laser.

This stunning Victorian Spoon-Back chair had spent a few too many decades hidden under layers of tired, crusty varnish—until we showed up.

What you’re seeing is "Selective Ablation" in action:

While it looks like science fiction, it’s actually just very clever physics. Our 300W pulsed laser is a bit of a "smart" cleaner—it’s tuned to vaporize the dark, brittle varnish but is completely reflected by the healthy, lighter wood underneath.

The result?

❌ No "elbow grease" required.

❌ No messy chemical st*****rs or sandpaper.

✅ Every original hand-carved leaf and scroll is preserved exactly as the Victorian craftsman intended.

It’s basically a time machine in a suitcase. We’re stripping away the grime, not the history.

Doncaster-based and mobile across Yorkshire. Bringing the future of cleaning to the treasures of the past.

When we say laser cleaning is non-abrasive — we really mean it. 🔬⬇️

I had a bit of a happy accident today while stripping paint from aluminium work-light frames. I briefly passed the laser over a notebook I was using to jot down settings… and to my surprise, it removed the ink while leaving the paper completely intact.

This is a perfect example of the level of control laser cleaning offers. With the right parameters, and when used by someone who understands the process, it can selectively remove one layer without damaging what’s underneath — something no traditional method can do.

That level of precision is exactly why laser cleaning is such a powerful tool across so many different applications.
