The March of the Robots....

We at Tenon Engineering are always looking forward whether it is considering investment in machinery, processes or techniques to assist in the improvements we can give to help our customers.

Tuesday saw one of our engineers at the Universal Robots ‘Automation in Action UK Roadshow’ at Brooklands in Surrey. Tenon Engineering is no stranger to robot adaption with two hard working robots supporting our Mazak Integrexs in the machine shop. It is what we need for the future that was the main objective and finding out what is possible.

It is always a delight when exiting a road show or exhibition when you feel that you know a lot more and see greater possibilities than when you entered the event. This was definitely the situation when the debriefing was given on Wednesday.

A big thank you to Universal Robots, Schunk SE & Co. KG - Hand in hand for tomorrow, Robotiq, , OnRobot, SICK Sensor Intelligence and all the attending companies for the event.

Now it is application suitability and budget planning time! 😀

Schools out…..

This week saw our team from Tenon Engineering and Wallace Instruments attend The Ashcombe Schoolool for an evening careers fair. They were there to promote training and careers in engineering and manufacturing in partnership with Crawley College. Really rewarding to see a lot of engagement around our table with questions, enquiries, and general information being shared.

We feel that it is so important that effort is made to regularly explain the opportunities, rewards and that there is an exciting career in engineering to our future workforce.

There was keen interest in the leaflets explaining the Work Experience Program we are running next July. All the leaflets were taken so hopefully that bodes well for next year’s intake and the future!

The Class of ’26….

This year, Tenon Engineering has once again been delighted to welcome school and college students as part of our work experience programme.

Whilst Tenon Engineering prides itself on the highly technical achievements of the company, the prospect of giving the next generation the opportunity to experience engineering and the manufacturing science first hand is a something that we feel strongly about.

Throughout the week, our aim is simple: to explain, encourage and inspire. Engineers and technicians have their own language and understanding of the world, and it is good to have the chance to illustrate the wonders, opportunities and challenges that makes up a career in engineering.

The future is bright 👍- the group of students were as keen, inquisitive and positive as ever. Their engagement, thoughtful questions and willingness to get involved made the programme rewarding for everyone, and we hope they leave with a greater appreciation of the opportunities a career in engineering can offer.

Finer than fine……

Tenon Engineering works to some very small tolerance limits in our machining departments, especially within cylindrical grinding but this example of wiring onto one of our customers’ sub-assemblies demonstrates a similar level.

The very fine wire from the attached coil is not much larger than a human hair so it takes some great dexterity and skill to successfully attached the wire to the small PCB ready to solder the “big” wires that connect to the shielded data lead.
Just one of the skills contained within our specialist assembly section, building and calibrating rheological air bear assemblies.

It’s just one example of the specialist skills involved in building and calibrating rheological air bearing assemblies for our customers.

For our highly skilled team, precision at every scale is simply part of the job - and that’s just fine with us! 😊

Da Doo Run Run Run, Da Doo Run Run….

Paraphrasing the 1963 song from The Crystals leads us to celebrating the efforts that our Production Manager has set himself. The 2026 TCS London Marathon. Alex’s day job is ensuring that TENON Engineering sets a steady productive pace so that our customers receive their products on time and to the high standards required. A steady pace is what Alex has been training and practicing for many months, and no doubt there has been a statistical analysis along the way!

The song has a simple repetitive chorus but there is no simplicity in running the London marathon and there is a very serious cause that Alex is supporting, that of Leukaemia Care and he plans to raise money every mile completed. Please follow the link below for more information and any donation (big or small) would be genuinely appreciated.

The opening line of the song “I met him on a Monday and my heart stood still” - well we think Monday after the marathon may be the ‘still’ bit. His heart and generosity will take him across the line. Go Alex, go - just remember the chorus it will help you the last few miles!! ❤️🏃‍♀️‍➡️
