Derham Ball Services Ltd helped avert a crisis this week. We look after a VIP customer who owns an apartment on the seventh floor of a beautiful old Victorian block overlooking Kensington Palace. Our office got a call early on Friday morning to say an electrician had been doing some work at the property, had drilled into the ceiling and now water was pouring uncontrolled from the hole. Could we attend and help and quick ! We had an engineer nearby who was diverted and arrived on site within 15 minutes. He quickly ascertained that the situation was far far more serious than we Could have imagined. The electrician hadn't just drilled through a pipe, he had drilled straight through the ceiling, the roof and then straight through the bottom of a 6000 litre cold water tank on the roof, one of two that served the whole building. We managed to get two people catching the water in buckets below whilst we rigged up a sump pump to drain the tank on the roof very quickly. Within 30 minutes the tank was empty and the leak under control. Not a drop went through to the six floors of apartments below - crisis averted.
