This morning, Luke Freeman (Group CEO) was guest speaker at the Herefordshire Conservative Business Forum’s monthly breakfast meeting.
Luke shared the story of the MF Freeman Group journey, from family roots and early contracting to the multi-division business we are today, and our long-term ambition to keep building in a way that adds value to the communities we serve.

The discussion also opened up an honest, practical Q&A about the barriers to delivering the right homes in the right places, including the pace of planning, infrastructure constraints, and the growing complexity of compliance. The focus was constructive; how industry, local stakeholders and decision makers can work together to unlock delivery while protecting what makes Herefordshire special.

A few themes Luke touched on:
- Long-term local commitment to building and stewarding places over decades, not short-term cycles.
- Responsible delivery and sustainability that is practical, measurable and embedded in day-to-day decision-making.
- Investing in people, training and capability to support future housing needs.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation.

Today, on Earth Day, we’re proud to share a significant milestone for MF Freeman Group – our commitment to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2045.

Working in partnership with The Planet Mark, we’ve developed a clear, independently verified Net Zero Transition Plan that sets out how we will reduce emissions across our business and supply chain, with a strong focus on genuine carbon reduction rather than reliance on offsets.

Our plan includes:
- Improving the energy performance of our homes
- Investing in renewables and low carbon technologies
- Working closely with suppliers to reduce wider environmental impact
- Measuring and reporting progress transparently

This commitment sits alongside our ongoing work in building high-quality, energy-efficient homes and supporting the communities where we operate.

As we celebrate 60 years of MF Freeman Group, our Net Zero 2045 pledge is about building responsibly today and protecting the future for generations to come.

🌍 A long-term commitment. A clear plan. Real action.

After 35 years’ loyal service, today we said a very fond farewell to our Plant Manager, Chris Kibble, who’s decided that it’s the right time for the next chapter - particularly spending more quality time with his family and enjoying his passion for motocross with Team Kibble.

Chris joined us in 1991, working closely with Mervyn Freeman, and playing a significant role in the development of MF Freeman Group’s Plant Hire division. Chris worked alongside his son, Grant, for 28 of those years, and as the baton is handed over to Grant, his words from a LinkedIn post last year speak volumes: “My Dad is a legend - Plant Manager, Machine Driver, Foreman, Welder, Fitter, Groundworker, Muck Shifter – he can turn his hand to anything; an old-school grafter who gets it done, every time!”

Luke Freeman – Group CEO said, “During Chris’ long and successful career with us, he has been at the forefront of the growth of our Plant business. We wish Chris a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement, spending more time with his family. We are incredibly grateful for his enormous contribution.”

Mervyn commented, “We first met you, Chris, as a young sub contractor working weekends at Whitchurch. You soon settled in and have always been an enthusiastic and versatile colleague, driving a wide range of machines and welding. Over the years, on site, in the workshop, and in the office, your clear, down to earth thinking has helped keep the wheels of the plant department turning smoothly. It has been a pleasure to have you working alongside me as my right hand man for the past 35 years. Your loyalty and support will be greatly missed. Enjoy your retirement, doing the things you love.”

On behalf of all your friends and colleagues, Chris, our sincere thanks. It is with enormous gratitude that we all join in wishing Chris a very long and happy retirement.

We’re proud to share some wonderful feedback from St David’s Primary School in Moreton-in-Marsh, where our contracting team, working in partnership with EG Carter, recently completed a comprehensive Flood Alleviation Scheme.

The children and staff expressed their gratitude for our efforts in protecting the school from floods and keeping everyone safe.

This project involved installing 1,100 cubic metres of Hydrorock cellular storage, along with associated drainage, manholes, and a package pump station. We also delivered a new permeable asphalt car park with integrated drainage and installed a swale and ACO channels to further strengthen the site’s flood resilience.

All of this was achieved while working in a live primary school environment, navigating local traffic restrictions, tight roads, and busy drop-off and pick-up times. Despite these challenges, our team’s commitment, attention to detail, and care ensured minimal disruption and maximum safety for the pupils.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, and to EG Carter for their collaboration and support. This recognition is a testament to the positive impact we can have when we work together.
