We’re taking a wee bit of time out after sadly losing Tom’s Dad, Keith.

Keith was a marine engineer himself, and engineering was something he and Tom shared a real passion for. He could often be found alongside Tom in the workshop, cup of tea in hand, chatting away and taking a keen interest in whatever was on the go.

Keith was instrumental in helping us get The Engine Room up and running, kindly allowing Tom to take over his garage space as a workshop in those early days. We’ll always be incredibly grateful for that.

He had a particular soft spot for Seagull outboards, and was especially excited to see the old Lister engines come into the workshop. Tom will continue the Lister restoration project in his Dad’s memory, as we know Keith would have loved nothing more than to see it finished.

We’ll miss him terribly.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding while we take a little time. We’ll be back as soon as we can. ❤️

A Lister CS5/1 rescued from a barn 🔧

This one is a little different from the usual work that comes through The Engine Room.

I recently bought this Lister CS5/1, which had been sitting in a barn for years. It certainly wasn’t looking its best when I found it, but underneath the dirt and surface rust is a fascinating little piece of British engineering.

The plan is to give it a proper mechanical rebuild and bring it back to life, but keep it as original as possible.

We’ll keep you updated with progress - from stripping it down and finding out exactly what we’ve got, through repairs and rebuilding, to hopefully hearing it run again.

It’s going to be a bit of a project, but I think it’ll make a great addition to The Engine Room once it’s finished, and you’ll be able to see it running and restored.

Follow along for the rebuild. 🔧⚙️

A Husqvarna 550XP MkII that came in as a non-runner 🧐 it needed a full strip down to replace a failed crank bearing and seal. All cleaned up, rebuilt and running sweetly 😎
