Very proud of this one

Full removal of the old tired flat roof to raise roof height and gain a vault sealing in the dining area with skylight.

Garage was already partly converted but we continued further into the garage to allow for a utility and a handy WC, still managed to have room for a storage area at the front

To better the space even more the wall between kitchen and dining room was removed.

Then to finish it all off the wren kitchen was fitted by our team and the pictures don’t do it justice.

What a difference in this one.

Flat roof replaced with a pitched roof allowing for a beautiful vaulted ceiling with skylight

The load bearing wall was removed to get full use of the area.

What’s not in the video is the rest of the garage has been converted into a utility and a handy downstairs WC and we even managed to make use of the new space from the new pitched roof for storage.

Another build stage explained — first fix electrics.

Before any plastering happens on your project, your electrician comes in to run all the hidden cables, install back boxes, and lay out the conduit runs that will eventually become your sockets, switches, lights, and consumer unit connections.

Once the walls are plastered and the finishes are on, that wiring is hidden for good — so getting it right at this stage really matters. Any changes after plastering mean chopping back into finished walls, which adds time and cost to the job.

On our projects, we schedule first fix electrics carefully so it falls at exactly the right point in the build, before the plasterers come in. It's one of those stages that requires good coordination between trades to keep everything running smoothly.

THINKING ABOUT KNOCKING A WALL DOWN? READ THIS FIRST.

One of the most common—and potentially costly—mistakes we see is a homeowner being quoted for a “standard steel” without anyone properly checking what the wall supports or calculating the loads above it.

Believe it or not, some tradespeople will price and start this type of work without requesting structural calculations.

There is no one-size-fits-all steel for every opening. The correct design depends on several factors, including the width of the opening, the floors and walls above it, the roof structure, the supporting walls and the foundations beneath.

Before a load-bearing wall is removed, a structural engineer should assess the property and design the correct support. This may include the steel beam, padstones, bearings, posts and any strengthening required. The structural design must also be submitted to Building Control as part of the approval process.

Using a guessed or unsuitable steel could lead to:

-Structural movement and cracking
-Building Control refusing to approve the work
-Expensive corrective work
-Problems when selling or remortgaging the property
-Potential complications with your home insurance

Structural calculations usually cost a relatively small amount compared with the overall project—but cutting this corner could cost thousands to correct later.

If you're planning an extension or renovation, you'll start hearing building terms that might not mean much at first.

First fix plumbing is one of them. It's the stage where your plumber runs all the hidden pipework — water supplies, waste pipes, and connections — through the walls and floors before anything gets plastered or finished. Once the plaster goes on, those pipes are hidden for good, so getting them right at this stage really matters.

It's one of those jobs that happens behind the scenes but has a big impact on how everything else comes together. On all our projects, we coordinate the trades carefully to make sure first fix is done properly before we move on.

CASE STUDY: HELPING A CUSTOMER KNOW WHERE TO START

One of our customers had been thinking about making changes to their home for several years, but they kept putting the project off because they didn’t know where to begin.

They weren’t sure whether they would need planning permission, who they needed to contact first or how much they should realistically budget. With so many unanswered questions, the whole process felt overwhelming before it had even started.
