We are excited to announce that we are one of the proud sponsors of the newly formed Newhouse boxing club.
Karl Turner, with the support of Will Chaplow and Andrew Baker, turned his dream into a reality when he opened his own boxing gym “Newhouse Boxing Club”. Based in Cornsay Colliery, west of Durham. The ambition was clear, with very little to offer young people in the area, there was a need for something to keep the kids off the streets, away from drugs and alcohol and offer adults the opportunity to foster fitness, a healthy lifestyle and personal growth.
Since opening its doors in January 2024, the club has become a cornerstone for people of all ages and abilities within the community, offering a welcoming environment to learn the art of boxing, improve fitness, and boost mental well-being. The club offers regular classes, 1-on-1 training, women only and children’s sessions. The club has significantly impacted on both young people and adults, bringing people together, forming friendships and even climbing mountains together. Newhouse Boxing Club has become like the hub of the community for many.
Fast forward a year and the club is now fully established, having had club fighters compete in 9 bouts, with 7 wins and 2 losses and 8 boxers due to fight in the up-and-coming boxing show on the 22nd March 2025 at Sunderland Live.
The gym is going from strength to strength and is now exploring bigger premises to accommodate its ever-growing members, the ambition is to create a space to reflect its fundamental principles, which are boxing based, but also offers something for all, whether you are a professional boxer to those that have never been in a gym before.
Good luck to the club for the future, we wish Karl, the volunteers and the 8 fighters the best of luck at the up-and-coming show, and the very best of luck for the remainder of the year ahead.
