Every home has a story to tell. This house has sheltered generations and stood strong for many years, but now it’s time for a new chapter.

Rather than trying to force the old structure into something it was never designed to be, the decision has been made to start fresh, replacing it with a brand new Solo Timber Frame home that will meet the needs of modern living while still respecting the history of the site.

This was a truly rewarding project to be part of. From the early design stages through to planning and the full build, we worked closely with our customer to create a stunning modern family home in one of Cheshire’s most desirable locations.

The brief was clear: the home needed to comfortably accommodate an extended family, including a self-contained apartment within the main house for independent living. The result is a spacious, light-filled property that combines contemporary design with practicality – perfect for multi-generational living.

We’re proud to have brought this vision to life and to see the finished home enjoyed by the whole family.

A few weeks ago we finished the timber frame on this home, and already you can see the story it’s going to tell. Step inside and the first thing that catches your eye is the double height glazing, perfectly placed to frame the countryside beyond. It’s not hard to imagine mornings filled with light pouring in, or evenings watching the sunset stretch across the fields.

This is another reason why so many people choose timber frame. It allows bold features like this to come to life quickly, turning drawings on paper into real spaces you can stand in and experience. Even at this stage, the view is already part of the house.

We’re looking forward to seeing this project develop and to sharing more of its journey as it takes shape.

Continuing our showcase of this beautiful Cheshire home, here’s a look inside.

From the very beginning, the focus was on creating a home that worked perfectly for multi-generational living. The interior combines open, light-filled spaces with practical layouts that give each family member their own sense of space and comfort.

Every detail – from the choice of finishes to the flow between rooms – was carefully considered to create a home that feels both modern and welcoming. The self-contained apartment within the main house blends seamlessly into the overall design while still providing independence where it’s needed.

A few years back, one of our Brighton projects featured on the TV series To Build or Not to Build.

Our customers took on the challenge of building on a very unusual triangular plot. With careful planning and determination, they transformed it into a fabulous family home. It wasn’t the easiest of sites, but the end result showed just what can be achieved with the right approach.

Seeing the project filmed for television was a proud moment for us, and a great reminder of how self-builders can turn even the trickiest plots into something special.

A traditional barn brought up to modern standards.

This project began with a structure that couldn’t be demolished, so instead of starting from scratch we built new energy-efficient walls to wrap and strengthen the existing frame. The result is a home that retains its character while meeting today’s insulation and performance standards.

It’s a good example of how we balance respect for heritage with the practical requirements of a comfortable, efficient home. More photos in a future post….
