Sometimes it’s a little sad when we hand over a project because we forge such great relationships with our clients.

As a bitter-sweet end to a great project, members of the SMD team attended the official opening of Sycamore House and Hall recently where we’ve refurbished and joined two heritage buildings for Bletchley Fenny Stratford TC .

John Fairclough, the Council’s Town Clerk said: “I just wanted to say a big thank you for coming along. It was great to have you all there to celebrate the opening of The Sycamores.

“I hope you could see from the reactions on the night just how pleased and impressed everyone was with the quality of the work SMD and the wider project team have delivered for the Town Council. It's something we can all be really proud of.

“On a personal note, I've really enjoyed working with you all throughout the project and appreciate all the hard work, support and commitment that has gone into making it such a success.”

We are pleased to Welcome Tom Austin & Josh Briars to SMD Ltd family!

Josh has years of experience in Estimating & Pre-Construction across various construction leaders such as Ashe Group, Borras Construction Ltd and more recently Durkan . He will be leading the growth and development of the estimating department , following the recent success of SMD appointments on various frameworks as our new Estimating Manager. Josh is familiar with many of our delivery partners and SMD team members, so settling in won't be too difficult.

Tom is also an industry leader within his field, gained from experience at Kier Construction and R G Carter . Which, is where he worked alongside numerous members of the SMD Ltd team including Tony Harrison, Graham Rendall & Moomith Ullah. Seems like a company reunion! Tom has joined as Senior Contracts Manager, to support the delivery of projects, tenders and contribute to the development of company systems, processes and innovation.

A huge milestone for the company with these two recent appointments. Here's to a long an prosperous future at SMD, great to have you on board!

We’re excited to be helping create more high-quality school places for local families in Leicestershire.

SMD has started work on a major expansion at Brocks Hill Primary School in Oadby, which will see a new two-storey teaching block created as the Outstanding school grows to three-form entry.

The project will provide seven new classrooms, a library, hall and improved facilities, supporting the school’s growing community for years to come.

We’re proud to be working with Educational Trust, County Council and on this exciting project.

We’re making the most of the summer holidays with another fast-track school refurbishment project.

With a tight programme, the project has required suppliers, subcontractors and our site team to mobilise quickly and work closely together to keep everything on track.

We’re proud to be helping create improved spaces for children and staff across Central Bedfordshire, with other education projects also underway at Lawnside Academy and Rainbows Nursery in Biggleswade.

We look forward to seeing the finished transformation ready for the new school term.

At SMD, we firmly believe that health, wellbeing, and fitness are fundamental to maintaining positive mental health, and they are core values embedded within our culture.

Over the recent Bank Holiday weekend, several members of our team were out pushing their limits and achieving fantastic results across regional events:

Stephen Owens (Director) competed in the ATW St Neots Triathlon, finishing an impressive 7th overall out of 142 participants and 3rd in his age group

Jordan Miles (Multi Trade Supervisor) took on the Milton Keynes Marathon, delivering an outstanding sub 3:06 finish

Both are incredible achievements and a testament to the discipline and dedication required to perform at this level.

Earlier this year, Joe Westwood (Site Manager) stepped into the ring for his first boxing bout—securing a win by unanimous decision, which is no small feat.

At SMD, we are strong advocates for anyone setting personal challenges and goals. Whether it’s endurance events, competitive sport, or simply maintaining a consistent fitness routine, we recognise the importance of pushing yourself, staying disciplined, and balancing commitments across both work and personal life.

Well done to Stephen, Jordan, and Joe, great examples of what commitment and mindset can achieve.
