In a recent publication, the detection of miR-122 as a marker for clinical detection of Drug Induced Liver Injury (DILI) was demonstrated with both high sensitivity (92,6%), specificity (89.4%) and AUC (0.96) in patients with paracetamol (acetaminophen) induced liver injury compared to health controls. miR-122 has been established in the scientific literature as an earlier and more specific biomarker for Liver Injury than AST/ALT.

Great to be in Catania today for the Liquid Biopsy Workshop, hosted by BIOMETEC as part of the EU RISE project!

The Spanish team joined in full force with Rosario M and Juan J from UGR, Rossella from NanoGetic, and the DESTINA crew – Salvatore, Juan Enrique, and Mavys – all attending and contributing to the event.

The day was packed with exciting talks on miRNAs, ctDNA, AI in diagnostics, and next-gen liquid biopsy technologies—a truly inspiring mix of cutting-edge science and innovation from both academia and industry.

Huge thanks to DESTINA and the University of Catania for organizing, and a special shoutout to BIOMETEC for hosting us. Can’t wait to see what comes next!

The Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institutet has awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly to Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun “for the discovery of microRNA and its role in post-transcriptional gene regulation.”

For those of us who have spent much of our professional lives highlighting the value of these molecules, today is a moment of pride. While there is still so much to explore and learn, this recognition shows that we are on the right track. A proud day for us all at DESTINA Genomica SL!
