We're delighted to have received an offer from the Thistle Wind Partners Small Donations Fund for a new interpretation panel, to tell the story of our large Leathery Turtle. Leatherback sea turtles thrive in tropical and subtropical oceans, but this one was carried off-course to colder climes and caught in the net of Westray fisherman Edwin Groat in 1996. The cast of its body on our wall was made by James Jackson and his team at the Museum of Liverpool. We canโ€™t wait to give this grand specimen a fitting display!

*** EVENT CLOSED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT**

Due to the rapidly deteriorating weather conditions brought on by Storm Amy, we have made the difficult decision to bring our consultation event in Drumlithie to an earlier than advertised close. The health and safety of the public and our staff must be an absolute priority.

We would like to thank those who braved the elements earlier this afternoon. All of our exhibition materials, which have been updated since our earlier Bowdun pre-application consultation events in August are available to view on the virtual exhibition room on our website: https://www.thistlewindpartners.scot/bowdun/

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you were planning on attending today and would like to speak to us, please contact Kirsty Macaulay [email protected]

๐ŸŒง WEATHER WARNING FOR FRIDAY 3rd OCTOBER

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain and high winds tomorrow from 17:00. With health and safety always the priority at TWP, we may have to review the closing time of our Drumlithie community consultation event.

If you're planning on coming along to speak to us tomorrow, please check our social media channels for weather-related updates.

If you wish to check arrangements for the Drumlithie event, please contact Kirstin Gove [email protected] and please stay safe.

TWP's Bowdun Offshore Wind Farm's second round of Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) events are coming up on Thursday 2 Oct in Johnshaven and Friday 3 Oct in Drumlithie.

As well as presenting our project information, we intend on the basis of the feedback that we received during and after our first round of consultations at the end of August, to provide additional information and clarifications.

The event in Johnshaven is a joint PAC event for the offshore Section 36 Application and Marine Licence, and a further offshore PAC 2 event will be held in Stonehaven in early 2026.

You can also view our PAC material here through our virtual room here: https://www.thistlewindpartners.scot/bowdun/virtual-room/

And, feedback can be provided either through our virtual room, via email to our Stakeholder Engagement Manager at [email protected] or by filling out this form: https://forms.office.com/e/fGrxRFxS1c

๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ› ๐ŸŒ TWP believe that Scotlandโ€™s energy transition journey must go hand in hand with protecting the natural heritage that make our seas so unique. Thatโ€™s why we are proud to support the Scottish Marine Environmental Enhancement Fundโ€™s (SMEEF) Seabird Resilience Fund.

SMEEFโ€™s strategic programme provides over ยฃ1.6 million to support targeted actions that improve seabird breeding success, strengthen coastal habitats and enhance monitoring and conservation science.

๐Ÿค And through our ongoing collaboration with the North East Ornithology Group (NEEOG), weโ€™re also improving industry wide understanding and evidence around seabird ecology and offshore wind development. The group has recently been shortlisted for the Global Offshore Wind Awards ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ† in two categories โ€“ Environmental Excellence ๐ŸŒฟ and Power through Collaboration: Pioneering Partnership ๐Ÿค.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Significant milestone reached for Ayre Offshore Wind Farm ๐Ÿ“ฃ

Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has submitted its onshore planning application for the 1GW Ayre Offshore Wind Farm to The Highland Council, marking a key milestone for one of the flagship projects under the ScotWind leasing round.

Once operational, the proposed wind farm located to the east of Orkney and north-east of Caithness, will be capable of powering more than 1.2 million households, and will contribute to the UK and Scottish Governmentโ€™s ambitious net zero and decarbonisation targets.

This project milestone follows the completion of a comprehensive optioneering exercise considering environmental constraints, as well as public consultations and engagement with local communities and stakeholders in Caithness.
