Called out to a breakdown in Cambridge for a local customer — vehicle non-start, starter not engaging.

After a few unsuccessful attempts at giving the starter a bit of gentle encouragement 😅, it was time to get it off.

Once removed, we found the starter motor bearing had completely broken up. A replacement starter was already on its way, but with some of the bearing pieces unaccounted for, I wasn’t happy just fitting the new one and sending it on its way.

We recovered the vehicle back to the workshop for a proper look.

Good job we did. 👀

The missing bearing pieces were found inside the bellhousing, along with damage to the ring gear.

🔧 New ring gear fitted
🔧 New starter motor fitted
🔧 Everything cleaned out and reassembled
✅ Back on the road

Sometimes the quickest repair isn’t necessarily the right repair. A little extra investigation potentially saved this customer from another breakdown and a much bigger headache.

❄️ Air con keeps losing gas? There’s usually a reason.

This DAF had previously been regassed but was only staying cold for a couple of days.

We attended site, pressure tested the system and found a fairly obvious leak from one of the A/C hoses.

New hose ordered and we’ll be back to carry out the repair and get the system properly regassed. 👌

❄️ No cold air? Don’t just top it up. Find the leak.

This Mercedes came in with an air conditioning fault. After carrying out a pressure test, the leak was quickly identified.

Simply re-gassing a leaking system is only a temporary fix. Correct diagnosis saves time, money and unnecessary refrigerant loss.

Volvo FH D13 attended onsite following reports of engine noise.

Further investigation found 4 out of 6 injector yokes had failed.

New injector sleeves, seals, yokes and bolts fitted, valve clearances adjusted and the engine tested.

Fault rectified onsite and the vehicle returned to service.

Rigid in this week with lighting issues.

All side lights and rear lights replaced, wiring repaired using waterproof TE connectors, new beacons fitted, and secured correctly with P-clips throughout.

A tidy repair that should stand up to daily fleet use and the British weather.
