Part 1 of probably many red tape issues😅

I posted a casual job opportunity on my own page this week. Looking for a young person who loves creating content and wants to learn.

What followed was a discrimination law lecture.

This is the reality for small business owners in 2026.

Every casual post second-guessed. Every informal opportunity picked apart. Every attempt to give someone a chance treated like a courtroom case.

And the people who lose when business owners stop bothering?

Not me.

Your council tells you to rinse your plastic before recycling it.

But studies show only 10–17% of what goes in your blue bin actually gets recycled.

The rest goes to landfill or gets incinerated anyway.

So we’re using litres of water — in a country where only 14% of rivers meet good ecological standards — to wash plastic that was never going to be recycled in the first place.

And our local recycling? It leaves Cambridge and gets shipped 400 miles to Northern Ireland. That journey alone creates 400–500kg of CO2. To recycle.

We can’t recycle our way out of this problem. The fix has to start at the source.
