So where does the water come from? 💧

Here's a closer look at how HYDRA-TECH manages its water system ->

Each HYDRA-TECH head has a generous onboard capacity, holding up to 70 litres. For shorter showcases, this is often more than enough water.

For longer run times, we recommend a closed-loop recirculation system, allowing water to be collected, filtered, and reused throughout the performance.

A closer look at the flame control system that was behind The Greatest Showman at Bristol Hippodrome 🔥

For this production, we supplied a range of custom flame effects across the stage, all fed from a central gas distribution wall panel.

Designed to supply and control 15 individual flame heads, the system allowed the production team to remotely manage multiple effects from a single location. Each regulator could be independently adjusted to provide the correct gas pressure for the specific flame effect it was supplying.

The panel also incorporated a range of safety features, including manual isolation valves, non-return valves, dual emergency shut-off valves linked to an E-Stop system, and a dedicated gas detection and alarm system.

By centralising both control and monitoring, the production team could operate multiple flame effects efficiently, reliably, and with safety at the forefront!

Just look at those raindrops 👏

Each 1 metre rain head has 48 individual valves, which is what gives that level of detail in the rainfall.

Using standard DMX, you can control how much water is released across the head, so the intensity can shift from a light scatter of droplets through to a full sheet of rain.

Simple setup, but it’s what makes it feel much more natural on stage.

Not all effects come in a box.

Some require something a little bigger 💧

Here is one of our integrated water distribution systems, engineered especially for the life-like canal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Opening Ceremony. Luke Mills, the Technical Director for the ceremonies, said that Luminous 'provided a service that was beyond expectations'!

Not every part of a show is designed to be seen, but it all needs to perform. These systems do the heavy lifting behind the scenes, ensuring everything on stage runs smoothly and consistently.

Beetlejuice 🪲

The Musical. The Musical. The Musical.

Luminous were proud to supply and install a range of special effects for Beetlejuice. From pyrotechnic sparks, streamers and confetti to handheld effects used by the cast, plus billowing chimneys, portals to the Neitherworld and smoking sandworms…

We were very excited to see this concept from Cirque Bijou come to life 🎪🌧️

For their R&D photoshoot last month, they used one of our HYDRA-STORM units. A piano suspended mid-air, raining down towards a performer, captures exactly what the rain machine was designed for: controlled chaos!

It’s always exciting to see our technology pushed into creative storytelling like this.
