To do that, we need to understand your experiences. If you are currently on, or have previously taken, a career break for any reason, your perspective helps represent the realities of returning to STEM and highlights where change is still needed across the industry.

The findings from the Index are used to guide employers and drive improvements in how returners are supported at every stage.

In partnership with Thames Water, weโ€™re supporting STEM professionals return to their careers after a break or transition into a new sector.

Our programme supports those with career gaps or changing skill paths, where traditional recruitment routes can be challenging. Placements typically run for 12 weeks, with the aim of securing a permanent role. 96% of our candidates progress into long-term positions with their host organisation.

Participants receive free CV support, interview coaching, and if successful, ongoing coaching and mentoring to help them thrive in their new role.

If you've taken time away from the STEM workforce and trying to return, or youโ€™re ready to transfer your skills into STEM from another industry, this may be the opportunity for you.

โ€ข Lead a multidiscipline team of engineers specializing in power systems, power conversion, automation, control and mechanical integration ensuring the overall solution meets customer, contract, quality and regulatory requirements.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of projects across the Central Belt of Scotland. Youโ€™ll be involved in managing costs, supporting commercial performance, and working closely with project teams to ensure value and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

Travel to project sites across the Central Belt will be required, so flexibility and a willingness to travel are important

The paid placement located in Motherwell and across the UK, is launching with roles within the Commercial Team at Morgan Sindall Infrastructure.

Participants will have the chance to work on key strategic frameworks focused on:
โšก Maintaining a safe and reliable electricity supply
โšก Reducing customer interruptions and minutes lost
โšก Supporting major clients including Scottish Power and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks

This programme is designed to support individuals returning to STEM careers, providing:

There is also the potential for successful candidates to secure permanent roles upon completion of the placement.
