Platform 3 at Folkestone Harbour is now finished, showcasing a collection of sensitively restored railway stock turned into unique dining venues.
In 2018, the "Edith Cavell Van" (PMV 132), which carried Edith Cavell's body and the Unknown Warrior, was part of a WWI commemoration. Because of Folkestone's links with the history of PMV 132 and the , two of this type of PMVs have been transformed into "Cavells," a Mediterranean restaurant launched in Summer 2024 by the team behind the Big Greek Bus, offering indoor and outdoor dining with dramatic views of the Channel and White Cliffs.
Adding to Platform 3 is a larger, rare "Elephant Van," originally used for transporting these animals by rail for circuses. It is believed Elephants may have even been used in the construction of the Harbour Arm. This van now houses an expanded "Shesells Seashells," a seafood restaurant that retains historical features like the original wood used in the bar.
This project demonstrates Folkestone Harbour's commitment to regenerating the site while preserving its history and offering incubation space for local businesses to grow.
