Because the number of panels only tells you one small part of the story.

One panel may produce more electricity than another, but the design also needs to consider the inverter type and size, the direction of your roof, shading and how the panels will be positioned.

Then there’s the expected annual generation, any export limitations from the DNO, system monitoring, equipment warranties and the installation itself—including how the panels will be fitted to your roof, whether scaffolding is included and what aftercare you’ll receive.

A cheaper quote with the same number of panels doesn’t necessarily offer the same system, performance or level of installation.

Here’s a little battery fact for your day off…

Have you ever looked at your monitoring app and wondered why your battery has stopped discharging even though it still shows some charge remaining?

It doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a fault.

Battery systems normally have a minimum charge level set, sometimes called a reserve or minimum state of charge. This prevents the battery from being completely drained and helps protect it.

Depending on your system and its settings, some stored energy may also be reserved for backup power if EPS has been installed.

So, if your battery reaches its minimum level and starts using electricity from the grid, it may simply be following its settings rather than failing to work.

The exact reserve level varies between systems, so speak to your installer before changing anything in the app. 🔋⚡

🌡️ Heat pump fun fact!

A heat pump often works best when you stop treating it like a boiler.

Many of us are used to switching a boiler on, blasting very hot water through the radiators and then turning it off again once the house feels warm.

A heat pump is different. It normally works more efficiently by running at a lower temperature for longer, gently replacing the heat your home loses throughout the day.

Think of it like driving at a steady speed instead of repeatedly accelerating and braking. 🚗

This doesn’t mean your home should feel colder. When the system has been properly designed, the aim is to maintain a comfortable, consistent temperature without those big swings between feeling too hot and too cold.

So, one of the biggest adjustments isn’t necessarily the technology, it’s changing how we think our heating should work.

⚡ Would your battery keep working during a power cut?

Not automaticallyand this is something worth thinking about before your solar and battery system is installed.

For safety reasons, a standard solar and battery system will normally switch off during a power cut. However, an Emergency Power Supply, commonly known as EPS, can be added to use the energy stored in your battery to keep selected essential circuits running.

Depending on how your system is designed, this could include:

💡 Essential lighting
🧊 Your fridge or freezer
📶 Broadband
🌡️ Heating controls

EPS is an optional add-on and doesn’t necessarily provide backup power to your entire home. How long it can keep your selected essentials running will also depend on your battery’s capacity, how much charge it has and how much electricity you’re using.

Because EPS requires additional equipment and electrical work, it’s best to consider whether backup power is important to you before your installation is designed.

🔥 A record number of households are applying to replace oil heating with a heat pump.

New government figures show that 8,150 households applied through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme in July, the highest number recorded and a 112% increase compared with the same month last year.

The rise follows the introduction of the increased £9,000 grant for eligible households replacing oil or LPG heating with a heat pump in England and Wales.

For many rural households, unpredictable oil prices, arranging deliveries and worrying about how long is left in the tank are all part of heating their home. A properly designed heat pump offers a different way forward, providing steady, controllable heating without relying on oil deliveries.

The £9,000 grant won’t cover every installation in full, and eligibility and costs will depend on your property. However, the additional support could make exploring a heat pump far more manageable for households already considering replacing their existing heating system.

🏡 From rising oil prices to a more renewable home ☀️⚡️

With recent price increases and so much uncertainty around the future cost of oil, this customer decided it was time to explore a more renewable way of powering and heating her home, while also reducing its environmental impact.

⚡ Did you know we also carry out full rewires?

It’s something we probably don’t talk about enough on here, but alongside our renewable installations, our team also carries out a range of electrical work, including full rewires.

Here’s a recent job in Pentraeth, where the team are currently completing the first fix of a rewire as part of a chapel restoration project. ⛪️
