SPK is a well established small family business covering all aspects of building, landscaping and ground works. From the age of 16, business owner Simon Kelly learned his trade working with his father in the Midlands. In 2003, Simon moved to Glasgow to set up his own company (and family). Reputation and quality workmanship has been the key to the success of the business which has gone from strengt

h to strength since its establishment. Simon's motto is "if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well", he uses only the highest quality materials and his attention to detail is second to none. Simon not only looks to the future by using the latest building materials for innovative designs, but also looks to the past and uses tried and tested traditional methods in stonemasonry, restoration and dry stone wall building.

Here are some pictures of a recently completed driveway in Newlands.
Our client required a new driveway and asked us to come up with a solution to solve the problem of having to move their cars back and forth in order to let each other in and out.
We suggested that a section of the raised bed be removed to create an extra parking space.

The existing drive was fully excavated and hardcore laid and compacted. The existing slabs were cleaned and re-laid. Gravel matting was laid in all of the remaining areas with a 20mm Moonstone gravel laid on top.
Ten rows of reclaimed cobbles were laid to form a gravel stop at the entrance to the driveway.
A retaining wall was constructed using reclaimed bricks from the 1890’s and some low level dusk till dawn lighting was installed in the parking bay. Some fresh planting around the wall completes the look!

Our client was delighted with their new drive and parking spot.

On this recently completed project, the front garden was elevated and sloped therefore our client found it hard to maintain their boundary hedge so we suggested that we lower the ground at the back of the hedge and create a simple pathway for easy access.
Sleepers were used to retain the high soil in the front garden thereby creating a workable raised bed. New steps were constructed to allow access to the new lawn. A surprise find when clearing the excess soil were the red sandstone blocks which were likely dumped when the house was first built! We cleaned them up and cut them to size to form the sides of the steps and the dwarf walls. Reclaimed Victorian bricks formed the step risers and natural sandstone slabs formed the steps.
Rolawn Medallion Turf is a high-quality, multi-purpose ryegrass/fescue turf and this was used to form a healthy, green and hardwearing lawn.

**EDITED POST**

**Job completed and the after pictures are added below! The property has a much better kerb appeal now, wouldn’t you agree?**

The outer bricks surrounding these concrete steps are in disrepair and the brickwork needs replacing.
Check back later in the week to see the finished look! 👀

Another job completed and another very happy customer!
The whole area was excavated down to the required depth, soil and waste were removed from site and compacted hardcore was laid on top of a fabric membrane.
Reclaimed bricks were used to form the retaining wall around the patio, grey natural sandstone paving was laid to form the new patio area and similar coping stones on top of the walls completed the look.
For work to run smoothly we rely on good companies to work alongside each other.
Special thanks to: Warnock plant hire Ltd, Jordanhill Garden supplies, About grab hire uk Ltd, A1 Reclaimed Bricks specialists Ltd, and of course the team at SPK Building and Landscaping

This made my day when I received this text tonight! It’s so nice to know that my clients are happy with the work I do.

“Sitting tonight and enjoying the later afternoon sun and listening to the birds.
Was looking at the before back garden renovation pics I’d sent to a friend, and then the after pics. I think you’re a miracle maker. Thank you.”

This client was fed up with her tired raised patio area in her sloping back garden which would often flood after periods of heavy rain, so she gave me a free reign to design a new patio area for her to sit and enjoy her garden.
The drainage problems were solved by the installation of new land drains behind all retaining walls and beneath gravelled areas.
Reclaimed Victorian bricks were used to form the walls and a simple grey textured slab formed the coping stones, steps and patio areas.

A new gravel driveway with Douglas Muir Quartz, constructed using a 100% recycled gravel core sheet matting laid on top of a compacted hardcore foundation. This matting is great for gravel driveways as it allows water to drain into the ground and also helps to make the gravel easier to maintain. New granite cobbles were used to form the gravel stop at the entrance.
Please contact us for a quotation if your driveway needs a makeover.
